University of Kyrenia 2016 – 2017 Spring Semester Faculty of Maritime Studies Graduation Ceremony and the Flight Team Undergraduate Certificate Awarding Ceremony for students of Aviation and Space Sciences Pilotage Department was presented with a dreamlike event.

University of Kyrenia Graduation Ceremony for 2016-2017 spring term took place at the University Campus and continued at the New Port of Kyrenia where the University research and training ship TEAL is anchored.

Founding Rector of University of Kyrenia Dr. Cemre  GÜNSEL  HASKASAP, Prof.  İlkay SALIHOĞLU, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of NEU Assoc. Prof. Dr. İrfan S. GÜNSEL, Director-General of the Merchant Marine Department of the Turkish Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications Cemallettin ŞEVLI, Harbor Master  Kutlu BAYRAMOĞLU, academicians, families and guests attended the University Graduation Ceremony.

Applauses and confetti’s accompanied the graduates when they entered the ceremonial ground and took their places with joy and pride. After a minute of silence and the National Anthem, the Rector Prof. İlkay SALIHOĞLU made the opening speech. The Director General of the Merchant Marine Department of the Turkish Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications Mr. Cemallettin ŞEVLI, during his speech stated that; “This University educates captains and chief engineers for our country. The effort provided by graduates and the experiences they have gained are really important for their profession and the marine industry” and he wished success to all graduates in their future careers.

Later on the students of the Faculty of Aviation and Space Sciences Pilotage Department who will take part in the Aviation industry as a pilot from this day on and who makes our university and country proud, received their brevets and Cabin Crew Bachelor’s degree certificates from Founding Rector of University of Kyrenia Dr. Cemre  GÜNSEL HASKASAP and from the Dean of Faculty of Aviation and Space Sciences Prof. Süleyman TOLUN.

Following the music recital performed by the violinist Mr. Ilyas Abdulin who is also the Lecturer of NEU Department of Music Education, Mr. Mete TEPSI and Mr. Peter OLUWATAYN AMOO made a speech on behalf of the graduating students. At the end of the speech, students including a female sailor Miss Rukiye DOĞAN received their diplomas.
The second part of the ceremony took place at the New Port of Kyrenia where the research and training ship TEAL is berthed, due to the fact that all the graduates of 2016 – 2017 spring term are from maritime programs of the University. The Graduation Ceremony continued under a great atmosphere with the traditional naval salute of ‘Chima Vira’, fast-breaking meal service, cutting the graduation cake and coming to an end after a ritual plunge of graduated students into the sea.
