The “Tatar People Culture and Historical Art Exhibition”, opened at the Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts with the participation of President Ersin Tatar and the Delegation of the Tatar People, brought together the culture, history and art of Tatar people with Northern Cyprus with a rich collection of 100 pieces. Along with the exhibition, which will be open to visitors until April 30, the opening of the permanent Tatar section at the Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts was held.
“Tatar People Culture and Historical Art Exhibition”, which brings together a wide range of works including swords, national clothes, jewelry, carpets, traditional musical instruments and models of Tatar people’s landmarks, reflecting the country’s culture, as well as sculptures and paintings bearing the signatures of Tatar artists, established a cultural and art bridge reaching from Cyprus to Tatar people.
The opening speech of the exhibition, which was opened with the wide participation of art lovers as well as the Delegation of the Tatar people, was delivered by Near East University Rector Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ. After Şanlıdağ, Hafizov Azat Ralifovic, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Republic of Tatarstan Investment Finance Corporation, and Ersin Tatar, President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, respectively made speeches on behalf of the Tatar Delegation.
After the speeches, the guests visited the exhibition accompanied by Tatar melodies performed by Near East University lecturer İlyas Abdullin and Tatar artist Rustam Fatahov.
Ersin Tatar: “This precious exhibition, which meets with the Turkish Cypriot people through the Near East University and the Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts, also reveals that we are an integral part of the Turkish world.”
President Ersin Tatar, who attended the opening of the 440th exhibition of the Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts, started his speech by saying “I am very happy to be at the opening of this special exhibition, which is also very meaningful to me personally”. Stating that his surname comes from his family’s roots in Tatarstan, President Tatar welcomed the guests who came from Tatarstan and attended the opening of the exhibition. Reminding that he met with Tatarstan President Rüstem Minnihanov at the “Turkey-Tatarstan Business Forum” held in Bursa in the past months, TRNC President Ersin Tatar said, “While talking to the President, I told him that my roots come from Tatarstan and my father’s name is Rüstem. In this context, we mutually emphasized that the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and Tatarstan have ancient roots from the past. In this period of history, we also emphasized the importance of supporting each other in the struggle for the existence of both countries.
Expressing his happiness that Tatar People culture will live in Northern Cyprus with the “Tatar People Culture and Historical Art Exhibition”, President Tatar said, “There is always an ancient and sacred bond between Tatar people and us. “Even if we want to break the bond we have with some wrong moves made in history or today, this is not possible.”
Stating that Tatarstan and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus support each other in unity, President Tatar said, “We will continue to meet together with artistic, cultural and strong ties, always crossing all borders and obstacles with technology and modern communication channels.”
President Tatar said, “This valuable exhibition, which meets with the Turkish Cypriot people through the Near East University and the Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts, also reveals that we are an integral part of the Turkish world.”

Starting his opening speech at the exhibition by mentioning the cultural richness of Tatarstan, Near East University Rector Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ said, “Tatar people has a rich historical, artistic and cultural heritage. Tatarstan, which has made a name for itself in many fields from traditional Tatar handicrafts to modern art, has a style that combines the traditional with the modern in the fields of music, theater and cinema.”
Emphasizing that with the ” Tatar People Culture and Historical Art Exhibition”, the 440th exhibition of the Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts, visitors will have the opportunity to get to know the magnificent history and culture of the Tatar people, Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ said, “Our Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts so far brought together the works of nearly 40 state and public artists from Tatarstan, in solo and group exhibitions. Such a magnificent exhibition focusing on the details of the culture and history of the Tatar people is a first. I hope that all of our people visit this exhibition and experience these beauties.”

At the opening of the Tatar People Culture and Historical Art Exhibition, Hafizov Azat Ralifovic, Chairman of the Board of the Tatarstan Republic Investment Finance Corporation, made a short speech on behalf of the Tatarstan Republic Delegation and the Tatar people, and said that the meeting of the opened exhibition with Northern Cyprus is the product of more than four years of effort.
Hafizov Azat Ralifovic said, “It is a great honor for us to represent our esteemed Tatar people in Northern Cyprus and to be able to participate in this event. We thank Near East University Founding Rector Dr. Suat Günsel with the feelings coming from the heart of the Tatar Nation for organizing this event.” Hafizov Azat Ralifovic, who also wished the Tatar People Culture and Historical Art Exhibition to create new beginnings, said, “Our beautiful Cyprus constitutes a meeting point for many cultures with the Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts. I hope it will be a center of attraction, especially for Tatars all over the world.”
