An online seminar titled as “Airline Startup” was organized on Friday, 15th of May by the Faculty of Aviation and Space Sciences Aviation Management Department at University of Kyrenia.
Head of Aviation Management Department Asst. Prof. Nalan Gelirli and Mechanical Engineer in Major of Aircraft B.Sc. and Freelance Aviation Consultant Ertuğrul Diş presented the seminar, which was organized to give students the opportunity to reconsider some topics, and to increase their awareness on certain areas and to get a holistic view of the airline.
Making the opening speech, Asst. Prof. Nalan Gelirli stated that this difficult period we are in due to the pandemic provide us an opportunity to be able to invite to a specialist like Ertuğrul Diş to be a speaker in this seminar and thanked him for his participation.
Mechanical Engineer in Major of Aircraft B.Sc. and Freelance Aviation Consultant Ertuğrul Diş explained the basis of his own experience and data of why he considers the idea of investing in the airline industry as an opportunity. He explained the philosophy of trade, target customers profile, airline types, feasibility studies and route analysis, possible cost and risk calculations, fleet composition and aircraft procurement, organizational hierarchy and personnel recruitment, required skills of key personnel and infrastructure elements.
Ertuğrul Diş referred to the Air Operator Certificate (AOC) and gave detailed information about the stages of the process with the local Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).
Asst. Prof. Nalan Gelirli explained why IATA security strategy and audit process concepts are important for the legal regulation and security of airlines.
The seminar, which was followed with great interest by students and other participants, ended with a question and answer session.
