We aim to have a say in the world in the field of maritime history and cultural heritage.
Our University of Kyrenia, which has set out with the belief that it will make a great contribution to the culture and academic community of our country, aims to have a say in the world, especially in the field of maritime history and cultural heritage. I believe that the Maritime Museum and the Maritime History Research Center, which we are establishing jointly with the Near East University, will fulfill a very important function complementing each other and this gives me great happiness.
The main objectives of the Maritime History Research Center will be to conduct all kinds of research and obtain scientific data in the field of maritime history, to publish and promote the works of academicians and researchers working in this field, to produce national and international joint projects, and to contribute to the development of our national sensitivity in the protection of our maritime cultural heritage. In addition, the Center will encourage and support new studies on Maritime History at the undergraduate and graduate levels, ensure that the results of the studies are published in the form of books, catalogues or encyclopedias, create a specialized archive-library by collecting books, theses, articles and similar works on maritime history in Turkey and abroad, promote research on Maritime History and cultural heritage values throughout the country and on international platforms, and cooperate with centers, universities and institutes established for similar purposes in Turkey and abroad. The Center will be headed by E. Naval Officer, who has served as the Director of the Istanbul Naval Museum, has published many books on maritime history, is still active in national and international institutions, especially in maritime culture and history, is one of the important maritime historians in Turkey, and whose knowledge and experience will make invaluable contributions to the University of Kyrenia and the Maritime History Research Center.
