Bringing together realistic models of 26 warships that took part in the Dardanelles Naval Battle and many other works about this battle, the “Dardanelles Naval Warships Collection” is getting ready to set sail to travel the world! The exhibition, open to visitors at the Near East University Grand Library Exhibition Hall, brings together one of the most unique collections in the world about the Dardanelles Naval Battle.

The Dardanelles Battle, of which 110th anniversary will be commemorated in 2025, is among the most important wars that changed the course of not only Turkish history but also European history. The “Dardanelles Naval Warships Collection” exhibited at the Near East University Grand Library Exhibition Hall brings these ships that took part in this epic battle, many of which sank into the waters of the sea, to the present day. The collection, which is open to visitors free of charge, brings together realistic models of 26 ships that took part in the Battle of Dardanelles and many other works about this war. The legend of Dardanelles lives on in the Near East University Grand Library Exhibition Hall!

You can travel back in time with realistic 1/100 scale models of 26 warships in the collection, from the Nusret Mine Ship to the Queen Elizabeth, from Mustafa Kemal Atatürk’s yacht Savarona to the Bandırma Steamer, which set off for Samsun and started the national liberation war, and with works depicting life-size sea mines and torpedoes and scenes from the battle.

The dimensions of the ship models in the collection, in which famous Turkish, British and French ships are exhibited together, vary between 1 and 1.5 meters. The exhibition also includes the most advanced warships of the period, such as Suffren, Inflexible, Irresistible, Goliath, Lord Nelson, HMS Triumph, Charlemagne, Elizabeth, Bouvet, Ocean, which were British and French ships that tried to pass Dardanelles.

After visiting this unique collection, you can also visit the Cyprus Museum of Modern Art and the Cyprus Car Museum located on the Near East University Campus to see many unique works of art and many works from classic cars to ship models, from the sword collection to the glassware collection.

Reminding that the 110th anniversary of the Dardanelles Victory will be celebrated next year, the Near East Enterprises Museums Department Head Prof. Dr. Ali Efdal Özkul described the “Dardanalles Naval Warships Collection” as “a treasure that reflects both the military and human aspects of the battle.” Prof. Dr. Özkul said, “This collection offers our visitors a unique opportunity to better understand the importance of the Dardanelles Naval Battle and the role of ships in history. We will introduce this unique collection to the world in memory of the 110th anniversary of the Dardanelles Battle, which we will celebrate next year.”
