-As part of the TUBITAK Project, University of Kyrenia Research Ship R/V TEAL JR is searching the TRNC coasts.

It was revealed that the first phase of the TÜBİTAK 114Y139 (1001) research, which is conducted at the helm of the Acting Rector of University of Kyrenia, Prof. Dr. İlkay Salihoğlu and is titled as “The identification of the impact of human interferences and natural changes on the Cilicia Basin (area between Turkey and TRNC) was completed recently. Currently, University of Kyrenia research Ship R/V Teal Jr is continuing to research the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) coasts.

According to the press info release issued by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations of University of Kyrenia, the aims of the TUBITAK Project includes; the identification of the hydrodynamic structure and the interpretation of the findings in relation to the previously known data, the interaction between the biochemical and ecosystem dynamics on the physical structure, the evaluation of effect of atmosphere-sea-land on the ecosystem, human sourced and natural interferences on the ecosystem, the identification of biodiversity and biotopes of the coasts, the identification of `reference conditions` in relation to “good environmental” conditions. It was pointed out that the spring sea research of the project was to be actualised on 4-5 April, 2016 and that this would involve the evaluation of the current status of the pelagic fish biodiversity and biomass.
