Cyprus Art Museum, that will move the Cyprus Turkish culture and art heritage to future, from past to next generations through the language of art, will be established in Kyrenia through the coperation between University of Kyrenia and Foundation of Education of University of Kyrenia.

According to a press statement released by the Press and Public Relations Directorate of University of Kyrenia, Cyprus Art Museum is going to be established through the cooperation of University of Kyrenia and Foundation of Education of University of Kyrenia in order to promote and exhibit works of art, invigorate art facilities to add value to tourism sector, support and promote the Turkish Cypriot artists, and move the original art heritage of Turkish Cypriots to future generations and perpetuate the works of art from generation to generation. The projection studies lasted several months and led by Prof. Dr. Uğurcan Akyüz, who is the director of the museum, are at the final stage.

Cemre Günsel Haskasap, Founding Rector of University of Kyrenia, making a statement and withdrawing attention to importance of art in history of civilizations said “The most important values and works of art left by all the civilizations ever lived and vanished in history are, without doubt, the works of art created by artists who know no borders in mastery and and seek for the mysteries of art deep inside the details of the universe. Our country is a land of civilizations. Throughout the history of our country, the artists of the civilizations ever lived and vanished marked their traces by forcing the limits of mind and creating magnificient works of art. As the Turkish Cypriots, we inherited an invaluable cultural, an magnificient art heritage from our ancestors, our roots with which we much boast and feel much honored. In this respect, as the University of Kyrenia and Foundation of Education of University of Kyrenia, we do provide the best possible higher education opportunities at international standarts to students coming from over 40 countries. However, as the Turkish Cypriots, we have more responsibilities that we inherited from our ancestors, from our roots, from our spirits. Cemre Günsel Haskasap, emphasizing the 445 years of existence of Turkish Cypriots in Cyprus said “Having a 445 years old history in Cyprus, the time has already come to emphasize the existence and concept of Cyprus Turkish Civilization and embody this concept. As the descendants of our ancestors, we have institutional, national and international responsibilties to pass our values to next generations, to gather the works of art created throughout the 445 years history of Turkish Cypriots, support and promote our contemporary artists and pass their works to next generations, introducing the works of art to our tourism sector and contribute to the added value of our economy. In this respect, a joint study was carried out by the University of Kyrenia and Foundation of Education of University of Kyrenia, and preparations have already been finalized to establish the museum…”

Mutlu Soykurt, Director of Foundation of Education of University of Kyrenia, also provided information regarding the establishment of Cyprus Art Museum, “At the centre of Kyrenia Town, we are taking a historic step that will significantly contribute to Cyprus Turkish culture and art values at national and international levels. While we are assuming this historic responsibility as the University of Kyrenia, we are aware of the fact that we are also assuming a significant responsibility in conceptualizing and embodying the artistic values of Turkish Cypriots and establisment of art history of Turkish Cypriots which is one of the most civilized people of the world.”

Prof. Dr. Uğurcan Akyüz, Director of Cyprus Art Museum, made a statement regarding the establishment of the Cyprus Art Museum and stated that the most important indication of the level of civilization of a people is the level achieved through the art. Prof. Dr. Akyüz referring to the sayings of Atatürk, said “As pointed out by our Great Leader, Atatürk, without art, one of the lifelines of a nation is definitely broken.
