The the construction process of campus of University of Kyrenia, which is has been continuing for some time now in Kyrenia, is coming to an end. The main building which comprises three faculties and the dormitories has already been completed, whereas the Rectorate and the Registrar`s Office buildings are about to be completed.
According to the press release from the Press and Public Relations Directorate of University of Kyrenia, University of Kyrenia has about 700 students undertaking their education and training. It has been expressed that along with these students and the 400 students to be inducted for the academic year 2015-2016, more than a thousand students will now be moving into the new campus of University of Kyrenia, of which modern architecture, education, research, social and sports facilities will be considerably standing out, and trainings and education on the new campus will be starting from the Academic Year 2015-2016.
It was revealed that the project of the campus of the University of Kyrenia was started in the first few months of 2013 by architects and engineers of the university itself and was designed with features reminiscing the civilizations and relevant cultures which have left their marks in the region.
Constructed on one of the most favoured coastal areas of Kyrenia, the campus of University covers an area of 65 decares and has a closed area of 21.000 m2. The completed campus will comprise a fully equipped library consisting of comprehensive literature relevant to aviation and maritime studies, sports facilities, a food hall, conference and exhibition halls, lecture halls, laboratories, simulator units, administrative and academic buildings. Currently, the buildings of the three faculties, academic and administrative staff and social facilities for students have been completed. It was expressed that students and academic staff would be moving into the campus on 20th July, 2015 to facilitate educational services for 4 faculties, mostly relevant to aviation and maritime studies, along with 2 vocational schools later to be available for 4.000 students. The campus is expected to attract high interest as there will be various accommodation options. These include a 4 start hotel, Park Palace Hotel, guestrooms offering comfort and facilities to meet the needs of students and luxurious dormitories.
While considering the infrastructure of the university, all details relevant to maritime studies have been thought of, later to provide; mechanical thermal systems for Department of Ship Machinery; power distributions and electrical systems of ship machines, a Hydrolic Pneumatic Laboratory to develop skills for automatic controls, Arpa-Radar simulator (Automatic Radar Plotting Aids) compatible with STCW and IMO rules, GMDSS (Global Maritime Distress and Safety System) Simulator for practical training on communication at sea through STCW and IMO model course; Machine simulator to receive training on how to deal with mechanical and electrical issues; international safety rules for tanker operation; rules on preventing sea pollution; ballas operation; tank hygiene , Tanker Simulator for gas free and load calculations; and Life boat platform.
The following facilities will be available at the campus of University of Kyrenia: Physics and Chemistry Laboratories; computer laboratory for technical drawing for aeroplane engineering and CAD/CAM lectures; rapid prototyping for 3-D printing laboratory; technology laboratory which comprises various CNC machines ; mechanic laboratory; aerodynamics laboratory; production workshops where students can work and improve their design skills starting from their first year at the university; EASA approved FNPT II flight simulator and 4 flight training planes for PPL and CPL training.
University of Kyrenia has a dock where a research and training ship, TEAL, is anchored bestowing all that is necessary to become the symbol of maritime studies and additionally, the university comprises training aircraft, simulation centres to become a physical infrastructure offering the potential to improve the vision of aviation in Cyprus.

Along with academic and administrative buildings, the campus of University of Kyrenia will facilitate social activity areas for students, landscape and recreative spaces, simulation units and a dock; all together to make the university the symbol and location regarding aviation and maritime studies culture in Kyrenia. In short, University of Kyrenia will be highly worthy for Kyrenia.”
