University of Kyrenia Rector Prof. Dr. İlkay Salihoğlu and Ankara University Rector Prof. Dr. Necdet Ünüvar signed the protocol on corporate cooperation.

University of Kyrenia Rector Prof. Dr. İlkay Salihoğlu and Ankara University Rector Prof. Dr. Necdet Ünüvar signed the protocol prepared to enable the two universities to cooperate in the fields of education, training and scientific work at the ceremony that held at the University of Kyrenia Rectorate building.

According to the statement made by the University of Kyrenia Press and Public Relations Directorate, Ankara University Rector Prof. Dr. Necdet Ünüvar, accompanied by the Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Serdar Öztürk, Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry Prof. Dr. Kaan Orhan, Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Prof. Dr. Ender Yarsan, Advisor to the Rector Ümmet Artuç, and Protocol Director Neriman Kantarcı while on behalf of University of Kyrenia. Porf. Dr. İlkay Salihoğlu, Vice Rector and Dean of Faculty of Medicine Prof. Dr. Rüveyde Bundak, Vice Rector and Dean of the Faculty of Education Prof. Dr. Gökmen Dağlı, Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry Prof. Dr. Serap Çetiner and Secretary General Fehmi Tokay were present.

According to the statement protocol aims to encourage cooperation between the two universities, to support and develop relations, and to determine the procedures and principles regarding the faculty member exchange program when necessary.

Prof. Dr. İlkay Salihoğlu : “We would like to thank Ankara University for their support so far”
University of Kyrenia Rector Prof. Dr. İlkay Salihoğlu started his speech by expressing that they are pleased to host the rector and officials of the first university of the Republic of Turkey.

Prof. Dr. Salihoğlu stated that Ankara University, an old and well-established institution, has provided help and contribution to the University of Kyrenia in different fields such as dentistry, law , science and literature since its establishment, and expressed his belief that this support will continue.

Prof. Dr. İlkay Salihoğlu stated that the University of Kyrenia, which took over the Maritime Faculty of the sister institution Near East University in 2016, continues on its path today with a total of 14 faculties, 7 vocational schools and 3 graduate schools.

University of Kyrenia Rector Prof. Dr. Ilkay Salihoğlu stated that they are the only university in Northern Cyprus to have faculties of Maritime Studies and Aviation and Space Sciences and underlined that they provide training supported by simulators in both fields.

Expressing that the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Dentistry will have their first graduating classes this year, Prof. Dr. İlkay Salihoğlu said that as a university, they attach importance to scientific publications and research which also they encourage.

Noting that the University of Kyrenia continues its education and training with a total of 3900 students. 35 percent of which are international students and 300 lecturers, Rector Prof. Dr. İlkay Salihoğlu reminded that they attach importance to cooperation with other universities while carrying out their activities and thanked Ankara University for the cooperation protocol.

Ankara University Rector Prof. Dr. Necdet Ünüvar, on the other hand, thanked the University of Kyrenia officials for inviting and hosting them.
Noting that the University of Kyrenia has developed in a short time and that it offers education in areas open for improvement, Prof. Dr. Ünüvar reminded that Ankara University, which celebrates its 76th anniversary this year and has 72 thousand students and 3 thousand five hundred academic staff, has a deep-rooted history.

Prof. Dr. Ünüvar underlined that University of Kyrenia and Ankara University have common areas.

Prof. Dr. Necdet Ünüvar emphasized that they attach great importance to the TRNC, which they see as a part of themselves, as well as an independent and growing state, and said that they are very pleased with the relations that the universities on the island have established with different educational institutions both in Turkey and around the world, and their growth and development.

Ankara University Rector Prof. Dr. Necdet Ünüvar noted that they consider collaboration with educational institutions in the TRNC as an investment for themselves and he concluded by reminding that maintaining a start is a process that requires constant effort as well as making a start.
