University of Kyrenia on way to become leading institution of maritime sector

University of Kyrenia, taking over the academic gains of Near East University, the sister university, which educated hundreds of well-qualified mariners from several nations for World maritime sector, continues its studies to meet the extensive needs and demands of World maritime sector.

According to press info released by Press and Public Relations Directorate of University of Kyrenia, the university, taking over the academic gains of Near East University, its sister university, which educated hundreds of well-qualified mariners from several nations for World maritime sector, continues its studies to meet the extensive and growing needs and demands of World maritime sector.

Number of foreign passengers coming to ports of Turkey reached to 2.9 million from 1.7 million, and number of touristic cruises reached to 1587 from 1367…

It is officially reported that the capacity of maritime transportation in domestic trade (cabotage), export, import and transit cargo transportation has increased to 388 million tones from 349 million tones between the years of 2010 and 2012. Besides, it is stated in the report that the passengers transported via domestic maritime sector is over 850 million within the same period of time, and the number of foreign passengers coming to ports of Turkey increased to 2.9 million from 1.7 million, and the number of touristic cruises increased to 1587 from 1367 within two years period. In this respect, it is pointed out that the need for qualified mariners is increasing gradually parallel to growing demands and needs of maritime sector.

Needs for qualified mariners increase both in Turkey and throughout the world…

According to data provided by General Directorate of Maritime Trade, which is a department of Ministry of Transportation, Maritime and Communication of Turkey, the domestic trade, export, import and transit cargo transportation of Turkey increased 39 million tones within two years and the needs to qualified staff in maritime sector increased gradually, as well. In the same statement revealing the data of GDMT, it is also stated the need for qualified mariners in the world is also increasing.

Wide employment opportunities for those graduating from maritime studies…

In press release, which also mentiones that the former graduates of Near East University, the sister university of University of Kyrenia, have all been employed in various departments and duties of maritime sector of Turkey and throughout the world maritime sector, it is also stated that the graduates of University of Kyrenia will have extensive employment opportunities both in Turkey and in the rest of the world.

It is also stated in press release that the University of Kyrenia, the only university of our country specializing on maritime and aviation studies in both Turkish and English languages, is taking the growing needs, requirements and developments of maritime sector and the university offers extensive education through its three faculties and one vocational school specializing on maritime studies. In the same press release, it is emphasized that the education provided by the University of Kyrenia is at the top level and at international standarts, meeting all legal and institutional requirements and procedures of maritime organizations, including IMO.
