University of Kyrenia has been represented at the “Our women are like the shimmer of the sea: Sea Sparkle, Sea and Women” Symposium, which was held due to 8th March International Women’s Day. It has been organised with the participation of TR Chamber of Marine Engineers (GEMIMO), Istanbul and Marmara, Aegean, Mediterranean, Black sea region Chamber of Shipping (IMEAK), Union of Chambers of Turkish Engineers and Architects (TMMOB), Chamber of Ship Engineers, Chamber of Shipping, Turkish Maritime Federation and Women’s International Shipping and Trading Association (WISTA).

According to the press info release issued by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations of University of Kyrenia, University of Kyrenia was represented at the symposium titled as “Our women are like the shimmer of the sea: Sea Sparkle, Sea and Women” which was organised due the 8th March, International Women’s Day. It was stated that issues which the women in maritime sector, from captainship to chief engineer, brokering to ship building engineering, encountered were discussed at the symposium. It was pointed out that five female students from each department represented the University at the helm of Dean of Faculty of Maritime Studies of University of Kyrenia, Prof.Dr. Mustafa Altunç.

Prof. Dr. Mustafa Altunç: “We are among the first in maritime studies and we will be continuing to do so”.

Making a statement on the matter, Dean of Faculty of Maritime Studies of University of Kyrenia, Prof.Dr. Mustafa Altunç said: “We are among the bests to provide education and training on maritime studies. We have taken on many years’ of experience and accumulated knwoledge from Near East University, and the first two women captains who graduated in 2002, Senem Ancın and Meltem Özkul, the General Director of Chambers of Turkish Engineers and Architects (TMMOB) Feramuz Aşkın’s name has been written in history. Furthermore, oceangoing captain Tuğsan İşiaçık Çolak is also among our graduates who took part in the symposium, and the female students who attended the symposium found the opportunity to get feedback from individuals alike. The attending students expressed that the feedback provided to them gave them assurance that they were on the right track towards a career in the filed of marine.”
