University of Kyrenia Faculty of Maritime Studies student Furkan Kuyucak represented University of Kyrenia and TRNC at the International Association of Maritime Universities (IAMU) Student Forum held in the UK.

The IAMU Student Forum, held in the UK on July 11-12, 2023, offered the next generation of maritime industry leaders the opportunity to connect and collaborate with the industry’s leading researchers, educators and experts, as well as maritime students from around the world.

The three-day International Association of Maritime Universities (IAMU) Student Forum included workshops and technical visits. During the two-day workshops, students practiced and worked on identifying the problems underlying the projects under consideration. In addition to identifying the problems, original suggestions and solutions were produced to deal with them.

On the last day of the forum, the participants visited maritime sites and learned about maritime history. Students had the chance to examine different values and expanded their knowledge.

At the end of the IAMU Student Forum, which is considered as a global event in the maritime industry, certificates were presented to the participants. Furkan Kuyucak, who represented University of Kyrenia at the Student Forum, was presented his certificate by IAMU Executive Director Takeshi Nakazawa.

As it will be remembered, last November, University of Kyrenia Maritime Faculty became a member of the International Association of Maritime Universities (IAMU) and registered its place among the world’s leading maritime universities. The University of Kyrenia Maritime Faculty, which was examined in terms of documentation, educational facilities and quality of education for more than four years, was accepted to the International Association of Maritime Universities and declared as one of the 69 highest quality maritime academies and universities in the world.

Founded in 1999, IAMU, the International Association of Maritime Universities, is an organization supported by the Japanese Nippon Foundation for the benefit of the development of world maritime. IAMU, which includes maritime universities such as U.S Merchant Marine Academy, California University and Massachusettes Maritime Academy from the USA, Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology from Japan, Southeast University from Norway, Svendborg International Maritime Academy from Denmark, is an independent organization that leads joint projects between universities and carries out studies that will shape the World Maritime Organization IMO.
