In virtue of the contributions that provided so far and to be provided with a growing momentum for the national and international aviation and maritime sectors by the University of Kyrenia, the city of Kyrenia, which is well known worldwide for its breathtaking tourist attractions, has been striding confidently towards becoming an aviation and maritime training center under the flag of the University of Kyrenia from 2015 onwards.

According to the press info released by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations Office of the University of Kyrenia, Asst. Prof. Dr. Ediz Tuncel, Secretary the General of the University of Kyrenia, stated that the University of Kyrenia had its campus constructed in the center of Kyrenia within a short time and would begin to offer education in its newly established campus in the academic year of 2015-2016. “From this academic year onwards, the city of Kyrenia will be known not only as a worldwide famous center of tourism but also one of the rare hubs of science that provides education and training to cultivate qualified staff for global aviation and maritime industries. Located in the center of Kyrenia, the University of Kyrenia will enhance the image of Kyrenia and our country by cultivating highly qualified staff equipped with comprehensive professional knowledge and skills to respond the requirements of aviation and maritime industries particularly in the East Mediterranean geography. Thus, it will pave the way for the city of Kyrenia towards becoming a well known aviation and maritime training center and will also add value to our country’s added value. Airline and marine transportation are the fastest growing sectors of the world and this situation leads an increasing need for qualified personnel. When considering the number of aircrafts ordered from Boeing and Airbus, the two leading aircraft manufacturers, the rate of growth and the primary role of transport demand is enough to put in terms the emerging needs for aviation sector. Boeing and Airbus received almost 24,000 overall aircraft orders from 2003 to June 2015. Both airline and marine transport activities are expected to grow robustly over the next several decades. The need for qualified staff will grow rapidly in the line with the growth in national and international aviation and maritime industries. The sector reports confirm that the needs of civil aviation sector will gradually increase in the coming years and consequently the need for qualified personnel will rise rapidly. Based on the current data, the future needs of the aviation sector in particular can be projected. The need for pilots, aircraft engineers and technicians, cabin crew, personnel for civil aviation management and logistics will increase very rapidly worldwide within the next 15 years, and will be expressed in hundreds of thousands. Analyzing the global and regional requirements of the aviation industry, the aviation departments of the University of Kyrenia have scheduled quality and cutting edge education and training courses in English and in full compliance with international aviation criteria to provide unique opportunities for the young people of the country and the world who are ambitious to make career in aviation sector….”.

Touching upon the new faculties and departments coming into service under the umbrella of the University of Kyrenia in the next academic year, Tuncel spoke of: “While the city of Kyrenia is referred as one of the rare aviation and maritime training centers of the world, the higher education sector of our country as well as Kyrenia will gain a new momentum upon the opening of 5 new faculties and 17 departments under the umbrella of the University of Kyrenia in 2016.”
