The Near East University NEU-RA 25 Sports Hall will be inaugurated by the Deputy Prime Minister and Economy, Tourism, Culture and Sports Minister Serdar Denktaş on October 9, 2014.
Established by the Near East University in accordance with international standards, the multi-purpose sports hall NEU-RA 25 is coming into service on October 9, 2014. NEU-RA 25 Sports Hall, which will be opened by the Deputy Prime Minister and Economy, Tourism, Culture and Sports Minister Serdar Denktaş, symbolizes the last ring of the chain of steps covered by the Near East University for the development of sports infrastructure. Various activities will also take place at the opening ceremony which will be held at 11:00 on October 9. Following the opening ceremony activities, a friendship challenge will take place between Near East University Basketball Team playing in Grand Masters Category and Mapfree. The first official challenge of NEU RA25 Sports Centre will take place between between Near East University and Harran University teams playing in the 2nd level Females League of Turkey on 10 October at 17:00 hours.
According to the press release from the Directorate of Press and Public Relations Office of NEU (Near East University Nicosia, Cyprus), the Board of Trustees Chairman Assoc. Prof. Dr. İrfan S. Günsel stated that they were living the proper pride of actualizing another outstanding infrastructure investment aiming to provide contributions to build the future of TRNC sports. Günsel also voiced his great satisfaction of bringing another permanent and monumental masterwork into the service of the country. Expressing that NEU-RA 25 Sports Hall would be inaugurated by the Deputy Prime Minister and Economy, Tourism, Culture and Sports Minister Serdar Denktash at 11:00 on October 9, Assoc. Prof. Dr. İrfan S. Günsel emphasized that NEU-RA 25 Sports Hall would be the new address of the sportive accomplishments to be achieved by the Near East University and Turkish Cypriots.
Underlining that NEU had made outstanding investments on sports so far, Assoc. Prof. Dr. İrfan S. Günsel indicated that the Near East University would continue to be the flag carrier of Turkish Cypriots in the international arena by producing new champions at NEU-RA 25 Sports Hall that built in accordance with international standards and measurements. Günsel stated that NEU-RA 25 Sports Hall would become a sports temple for sports enthusiasts within a short time.
Reminding that the Women’s Basketball Team of the Near East University plays in the second Basketball League of Turkey, Assoc. Prof. Dr. İrfan S. Günsel said that he believed in that they would win championship and championships in the newly established sports hall. Stating that as Near East University they feel proud of fulfilling its share of duty ideally to build the future regarding all areas of social life, Assoc. Prof. Dr. İrfan S. Günsel highlighted that NEU-RA 25 Sports Hall would be a very significant sports-home to cultivate intelligent, agile and morally justified young people.

The flooring system of the sports hall is exactly the same as the FIBA approved flooring system used in the last World Basketball Championships held in Barcelona. NEU-RA 25 Sports Hall Flooring System has been designed for truly multi sports conditions and is officially certified by the Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB), Fédération Internationale de Basketball (FIBA), and Badminton World Federation (BWF) as well as the Seal of Approval by the International Handball Federation (IHF). NEU-RA 25 Sports Hall with FIBA certified basketball hoops, IHF certified goal posts, FIVB certified volleyball sports requisites provides opportunities to carry out many sports activities including basketball, handball, volleyball and badminton. With its infrastructure that meets the international standards, NEU-RA Sports Hall will pave the way for the country’s sports to move forward. All equipments, which comply with international standards, were imported from the U.S., Germany and Spain. A top-down automatic curtain system allows two different teams to work simultaneously. The sports hall houses 4 athlete-locker rooms, 2 referee-locker rooms, first aid room, press room, administrative rooms and a cafeteria. With its technical structure that enables live broadcasting of sportive events, the sports hall is very remarkable. The special audio-system makes it possible to realize various ceremonies and concerts. As an indicator of NEU’s sensitivity towards the persons with special needs, NEU-RA 25 is optimized to provide opportunities for persons with physical disabilities to participate in indoor multipurpose sports hall applications. The sports hall houses two fully equipped locker rooms for people with physical disabilities.
