A new one has been added to University of Kyrenia’s Industry-University Cooperation Protocols. The protocol, which will enter into force as of mid-May, was signed by the General Manager Captain Murat SALEL on behalf of TRNC Coastal Safety and Ship Rescue Ltd. Şti and University of Kyrenia Rector Prof. Dr. İlkay Salihoğlu. Under the terms of the protocol, which was developed under the leadership of the University of Kyrenia Maritime Faculty and shaped within the framework of mutual goodwill, it offers the student and instructor resources of the Maritime Departments to the use of TRNC Coastal Safety and Ship Rescue Ltd. Şti, as well as regular STCW certificate trainings, as well as student internship opportunities and employment opportunities through jointly developed projects. The protocol will also cover the compulsory training of TRNC Turkish Cypriot Radio personnel, and with the trained personnel power arising from the cooperation and the facilities of the institutions, it will also produce opportunities that will create resources for the modernization of the ships within the TRNC Coastal Safety and Ship Rescue Ltd. On the other hand, intern students from the engine and deck departments will participate in watchkeeping, repair, maintenance and modification works in near-shore navigation areas, and will try to contribute to the scientific literature with international projects to be developed together.
At the signing ceremony held at the University of Kyrenia Campus, Rector Prof. Dr. İlkay Salihoğlu emphasized the importance of the protocol and the goals for the future period, stating that the two most competent maritime institutions in the TRNC are very pleased with such a valuable, albeit long overdue, compromise, and thanked the subjects of the University of Kyrenia, Faculty of Maritime Studies for planning the framework of the protocol. Speaking at the ceremony, TRNC Coastal Safety and Ship Rescue Ltd. Şti General Manager, Capt. Murat Salel, who was one of the first graduates of NEU Maritime Faculty, shared his wishes for the protocol to be beneficial for the TRNC Maritime, along with his wishes that the level of competence reached by NEU Maritime Faculty and the partnerships to be established will provide striking gains. The General Manager, Captain Murat Salel, explained with examples that the TRNC Coastal Safety and Ship Rescue has the capability to reach every point of the Mediterranean beyond the TRNC coasts, and emphasized the strategic importance of the institution for the TRNC, which has the capability equivalent to the examples in the civil maritime literature. Prof. Dr. İlkay Salihoğlu added that it is not a coincidence that the TRNC Coastal Safety and Ship Rescue Company was established on the date when the University of Kyrenia Maritime Faculty, which has international education and certification authority, gave its first graduates, on the contrary, this situation has provided a solid foundation for the reputation of Northern Cyprus in the maritime field. The ceremony, which was attended by the delegations of University of Kyrenia and TRNC Coastal Safety and Ship Rescue Ltd. Şti, ended after lunch, which is traditional in maritime literature.
