The “TRNC and Sustainable Maritime Economy” symposium, which will be held in honor of the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Turkey and the 40th anniversary of the TRNC, will be held on 6-7 November 2023 at the University of Kyrenia in cooperation with the University of Kyrenia Maritime Faculty and the University of Kyrenia Maritime Center (GÜDENMER).
The symposium, which will be hosted by the University of Kyrenia Maritime Center, which was established to develop the Turkish Cypriot Maritime, to determine policies and strategies, to carry out all kinds of research in the field of maritime and to obtain scientific data, will also be an important vision-setting meeting with the contributions of the experts it will bring together.
University of Kyrenia Rector Prof. Dr. İlkay Salihoğlu and GÜDENMER President Captain Enver Yetkili underlined that the aim of the symposium, which will be held under the title of “TRNC and Sustainable Maritime Economy”, is to contribute to the protection of the seas and the development of maritime activities within the framework of the principles of “blue homeland” and “blue economy”, to increase maritime activities and revenues by developing sea and maritime culture.
20 speakers will take part in the two-day symposium
In the symposium, which will last for two days and twenty speakers will make presentations in total; important issues such as “TRNC Blue Homeland”, “TRNC Blue Economy”, “TRNC Maritime Jurisdictions” and “Search and Rescue Jurisdictions in the Eastern Mediterranean” will take priority. The symposium, which will bring together many experts from the Republic of Turkey; Retired Rear Admiral Cem Gürdeniz, Retired Rear Admiral Alaettin Sevim, TRNC Presidential Advisors Prof. Dr. Hasan Ünal, Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Işıksal, Prof. Dr. Vedat Yorucu, President of the Turkish Naval Research Foundation (TÜDAV) Prof. Dr. Bayram Öztürk, Prof. Dr. Barış Salihoğlu, Director of METU Marine Sciences Institute and Climate Change and Sustainable Development Application and Research Center, and DUX, an artificial intelligence-based professor developed by the Institute of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics of Near East University.
