Technological equipment updating of the ship TEAL, which is an important integral part of Maritime training and research activities of the University of Kyrenia, has been finalized.
Delivering information to the Press and Public Relations Directorate of the University of Kyrenia, the person in charge of TEAL, the Unlimited Shipmaster Hilmi Şahlı pointed out the fact that TEAL with its 46.6 m length and 8.50 m width was the first and the only training and research ship of TRNC. Şahlı indicated that the procedures relevant to modernize TEAL with the latest technological systems, which meet the requirements of the current technology and contemporary training and research studies, have been completed. He noted that the technological equipment, engine order control, fire alarm systems and radar systems of the ship were replaced with cutting-edge technologic devices and products. Touching upon the importance of the innovation for students and scientists, the Unlimited Shipmaster Şahlı said that during the designing process the most advanced technological systems and equipments developed for maritime training and research purposes, were chosen to be mounted in order to meet the contemporary navigation and training requirements and to provide the scientists with cutting-edge technologic systems that might be needed during their research studies.
Unlimited Shipmaster Hilmi Şahlı, who is responsible for technological developments as well, delivered further information by stating that the renovation works would not remain limited with the replacement of some Navigation Bridge Equipments such as Echo sounder (graff), 2 VHF-DSC, 2 radars, Autopilot, MF-R/t, GPS Plotter, Satellite navigator, ECDIS, Digital echo sounder, and foils map . He emphasized that latest technology devices and equipments developed for research purposes would be mounted to revamp the ship and enhance the research capacity of TEAL soon. The Unlimited Shipmaster Şahlı highlighted the importance of renovation and said: “Since Teal is the first and only research ship in TRNC, It is highly important to raise its research capacity to the ultimate level by equipping it with the state of art technology product and devices. Thus, TEAL can carry out every kind of marine research to meet the requirements of the era and provide training facilities for maritime students at the highest contemporary standards available.”
Şahlı indicated that TEAL with its renovated technological equipment would significantly contribute to the scientific studies of the University of Kyrenia, to the currently supported EU projects, and provide much stronger contributions to the requirements of the country, as well.
