The photography exhibition “Through the Camera of President Ersin Tatar”, which brings together 50 photographs taken by President Ersin Tatar, was opened at the Near East University İrfan Günsel Congress Center Exhibition Hall.
The photography exhibition, which brings together 50 nature photographs taken by President Ersin Tatar, who is known for his social life with the public and his passion for photography, as well as his political aspect, will be open to visitors until December 30.
At the opening ceremony of the exhibition, which took place with intense participation, President Ersin Tatar and his wife Sibel Tatar, Founding Rector of Near East University Dr. Suat İrfan Günsel, Rector of Near East University Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ and University of Kyrenia Rector Prof. Dr. İlkay Salihoğlu, Presidential bureaucrats, undersecretaries, academics and many art lovers attended.
The opening speeches of the exhibition were made by President Ersin Tatar and Near East University Rector Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ.
President Ersin Tatar: “All the frames I have taken reflect my perspective and the world of emotions I was experiencing at that moment.”
President Ersin Tatar, in the opening speech of his solo exhibition, said, “Life consists of memories. Today, we are sharing a memory here. It is a very meaningful moment for me to be sharing some of the photographs I have taken over the years with you today at the 451st exhibition of the Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts.”
Expressing his admiration for art, President Tatar said, “I would like to thank everyone who walked this path with me and supported me. I would also like to thank Near East University Founding Rector Dr. Suat Günsel for the artistic breakthrough he pioneered in our country.”
Reminding that he is not a professional photographer, President Tatar stated that taking photographs is a great hobby for him. Stating that he has always been involved with photography during his professional career in the media sector in England, Turkey and TRNC for many years, President Tatar stated that he spent a long time with master photographers and that in the past he published two magazines called “Kıbrıs’ım-My Cyprus” and “Kıbrıs Türk-Cyprus Turkish”. He also reminded that Ersin Taşer, Özgür Yaşın, Özer Hatay and Ünal Tabip helped him in the publishing process of these magazines.
President Tatar said, “All the frames I have taken reflect my perspective and the world of emotions I was experiencing at that moment. Let’s not forget that there is no repetition of any captured moment. These unique moments are shared with millions of people with a single click. We brought you 50 photos today, but rest assured there are thousands more. Perhaps in the coming days, I will introduce my other works to you and make them more permanent.”
Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ: “I believe that politicians’ involvement with art has a very important function in realizing their mission of understanding and transforming society.”
He continued his speech by saying, “When I first received the invitation for this special exhibition that we have opened, I thought that our esteemed President Ersin Tatar would attend the opening of another exhibition organized by the Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts. After a while, when I realized that the exhibition we were going to open was the solo exhibition of our President himself, I welcomed this surprise with a deep smile and happiness.”
Reminding that they opened the 451st exhibition of the Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts, Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ said, “With all these exhibitions, as we surround our daily lives with art, art has turned into a great habit for us without realizing how this happened. However, with every opening, we realize once again that we are in a very special and extraordinary wealth.”
Emphasizing that he witnessed closely the value that President Ersin Tatar attaches to art and artists, Prof. Dr. Şanlıdağ said that the artistic spirit of President Ersin Tatar met with art lovers for the first time with the opening of this exhibition. Stating that there is a strong and deep relation between politics and art, Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ said, “I believe that politicians’ involvement with art has a very important function in realizing their mission of understanding and transforming society. Because. it is very valuable and important for all of us that our President concretizes his deep relationship with art with his solo photography exhibition.”
