The Graduate School of Social Sciences of NEU offers opportunities for candidates who want to study for a doctorate degree

The Graduate School of Social Sciences of the Near East University is devoted to promote and support excellence in graduate education and research. The Graduate School of Social Sciences aims to accommodate the demands of the candidates in pursuit of their advanced academic and professional careers through creative programs and competent academic staff. To this end, candidates, who want to enroll in one of the 14 doctoral programs offered by the Graduate School of Social Sciences, will be provided with opportunity to receive training as an assistant.

According to the press statement released by Press and Public Relations Directorate of the Near East University, the candidates, who have a master degree and are in pursuit of their advanced academic and professional careers, can study doctorate on one of the following doctorate degree programs offered by NEU Graduate School of Social Sciences. The following doctorate programs are available: European Union Relations, Banking and Finance, Fine Arts and Design, Economics, Communication, Innovation and Information Management, Business, Public Law, Clinical Psychology, Media and Communication Studies, Private Law, Theatre, International Relations, and International Business.

The Near East University within the scope of its fundamental objectives is committed to promote excellence in education. In accomplishing its objectives, the Near East University with its departments and programs is dedicated to providing best practices to apply across disciplines. In the academic year of 2014-2015, the Near East University, which launched Teaching Staff Training Program (ÖYP) at the Faculty of Architecture, Faculty of Law and Faculty of Pharmacy in the previous academic year, will implement Teaching Staff Training Program (ÖYP) through the doctorate degree programs offered by the Graduate School of Social Sciences. Candidates, who have a master degree and enroll in one of 14 doctoral degree programs, can be included in the ÖYP program. The candidates, who are admitted the ÖYP program, will receive scholarship for their education and will be appointed as assistants at the respective faculties, and the minimum wage will be paid to them as salary every month.

In his explanation, Board of Trustees Vice Chairman Asst. Prof. Dr. Murat Tüzünkan stated that the ÖYP program, which was implemented in three programs last year, had been included in 14 programs available within the body of the Graduate School of Social Sciences. Tüzünkan highlighted that as Near East University, they lived the happiness of providing such an opportunity for the young people in pursuit of building up an advanced academic and professional career. Indicating that the candidates that accepted for ÖYP program receive scholarship for their doctoral education, and paid the minimum wage every month due to serving as assistants, Tüzünkan said that the graduates would continue to work as an academic staff at the Near East University after completing their doctorate education successfully. Touching upon the importance of interaction with national and international institutions, Asst. Prof. Dr. Murat Tüzünkan emphasized that the Near East University has broad relations with national and international higher education organizations. “The Near East University, which is the leading gear of the higher education institutions in our country and region, provides opportunities for our young people through a myriad of ÖYP program on area studies as well as issue-specific subjects. The significance of NEU’s approach to doctoral study and ÖYP program is the way it opens up the possibilities for young people to build up an advanced academic and professional career through bursary education and to have the guarantee to be employed as an academic staff at NEU. In this vein, NEU Graduate School of Social Sciences offers 14 programs aiming to graduate well qualified teaching staff and to employ them at the respective academic units of NEU. The other approach is to develop expertise in a major issue area in education and contribute the improvement of the quality of education. NEU Graduate School of Social Sciences aims to encourage a creative environment for research and teaching as well as social impact. The young people, who will receive doctoral education within the framework of the innovative and participative vision of the Near East University, will be equipped with professional information and skills to undertake the leading role in providing the intellectual infrastructure of societal development.” said he.

Besides the PhD programs, NEU Graduate School of Social Sciences also offers 41 master degree programs that approved by YÖDAK and YÖK. The candidates can receive their doctorate or master degree programs with or without thesis either in Turkish or English. The graduate programs, which have a great importance in the aspect of academic career and personal career development, provide the graduates with opportunities to develop expertise in a specific area and gain adequate knowledge and skills to carry out their professions more efficiently.
