The foundation of Dr. Suat Günsel State Primary School, the first of the 6 fully equipped with 500 students capacity primary schools to be built by the Near East Enterprises in 6 districts of the TRNC and transferred to the government, was laid in Gönyeli Yenikent with a splendid ceremony held with the participation of Prime Minister Ersan Saner.

With the decision of Günsel Family Board, the foundation of Dr. Suat Günsel State Primary School was laid in Gönyeli Yenikent with a magnificent ceremony.

The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Ersan Saner, Minister of National Education and Culture Olgun Amcaoğlu and Interior Minister Kutlu Evren, as well as deputies, undersecretaries, rectors, mayors and many guests.

A protocol was signed between the Ministry of National Education and Culture and the Near East Enterprises on January 19, 2021, for the schools that the Günsel Family decided to build in Nicosia, Famagusta, Kyrenia, Güzelyurt, İskele and Lefke, and hand them over to the Ministry of National Education and Culture Primary Education Department. The foundation of the first of the schools to be built, Dr. Suat Günsel State Primary School, was laid in Gönyeli Yenikent. It will be built on 14 decares of land. The school, of which all investment and expenses will be covered by the Near East Enterprises and transferred to the state as ready for education, will have a capacity of 500 students.

At the groundbreaking ceremony of Dr. Suat Günsel State Primary School, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Near East Enterprises Prof. Dr. İrfan Suat Günsel, Minister of National Education and Culture Olgun Amcaoğlu and Prime Minister Ersan Saner respectively delivered speeches.


Prof. Dr. İrfan Suat Günsel: “Every school we will build in six districts of our country and donate to the children of this country will be an indication of our belief in these lands.”
The Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Near East Enterprises, Prof. Dr. İrfan Suat Günsel said, “The foundation laid here today is not just the foundation of a school building. This foundation is the foundation of a vision we have cultivated in this country, and the indication of strong and lasting steps to be taken into the future. Every school that we will build in six districts of our country and present to the children of this country will be an indication of our belief in these lands.”

In accordance with the decision of the Günsel Family Board, stating that they will complete all investments of Dr. Suat Günsel Public School and deliver it to the Directorate of Primary Education Department of the Ministry of National Education and Culture, Prof. Dr. İrfan Suat Günsel said, “After Nicosia, we will build other primary schools each with a capacity of 500 students in Girne, Famagusta, İskele, Güzelyurt and Lefke, in the event that their lands are determined, simultaneously starting their investments and completing them as soon as possible and delivering them to the Directorate of Primary Education Department.”

“We are continuing to make investments that will strengthen our country’s economy, as well as its culture, health and education,” saying Prof. Dr. Günsel, continued his speech and pointed out that the second phases of the Near East Yeniboğaziçi Campus Library, Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts, Suat Günsel Mosque and GÜNSEL production facilities will be made soon.

Prof. Dr. Irfan Suat Günsel saying “We have been exerting ourselves for 43 years in order for our country, in order for the future of our country, in order to take the place we deserve in the world, in order to deepen our roots in our country.”, further emphasized in his speech as follows; “Günsel Family has worked hard and devotedly to deepen our roots in this land, with the principle to be worthy of our motherland Turkey that gave her own lives and spirit to establish a state in this land for us. Today Turkey’s quarterback role, strategy-making experience and ability are of our greatest chances. We are trying to make the best use of this chance and pay our debt to these lands.” Concluding his speech referring to his father Dr. Suat Günsel’s words, Prof. Dr. İrfan Suat Günsel said, “We take pride not in what we have done, but in what we have not yet done. That is why the only thing that falls upon us is to be worthy of this land, this country! All our efforts are for this!”


Olgun Amcaoğlu: “This flare you have thrown will enlighten the future of our children.”
Minister of National Education and Culture Olgun Amcaoğlu started his speech by saying that he was excited and said, “As a child of a Gönyeli, as a father and Minister of National Education and Culture, I thank the Günsel Family. This flare that you have thrown will enlighten the future of our children. The discussions that have lasted for 20 years about the school need of the Gönyeli region will end with Dr. Suat Günsel State Primary School. We will soon deliver places in Iskele and Kyrenia to our children and we want our children to start benefiting from opportunities that will be provided by Dr. Suat Günsel State Primary School as soon as possible.”

Stating that the support given by the Günsel Family to education is not limited to the schools to be built and transferred to the state, Minister of National Education and Culture Olgun Amcaoğlu said, “We are also starting a study for the employment of our children studying in our vocational high schools in the production of GÜNSEL, the domestic automobile of our country. Thus, the children of this country will have the chance to take part in the production of GÜNSEL, which is also the heart and soul of this country.”


Prime Minister Ersan Saner: “Dr. Suat Günsel State Primary School will meet a great need in Gönyeli.”
TRNC Prime Minister Ersan Saner started his speech at the groundbreaking ceremony of Dr. Suat Günsel State Primary School by emphasizing that the school projects that the Günsel Family will build and transfer to the state will be the first in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. Prime Minister Saner said, “A rare project will come to life in our country with the cooperation of the private sector and the public. I hope these kind of projects come to life more and we can bring more works to our country with the cooperation of the state and private sector.”


Stating that there is not a single educational institution in the rapidly growing Gönyeli region of Nicosia, Prime Minister Saner said, “While thinking about how we can develop projects to facilitate the access of children to education in this region, the Near East Enterprises came up to build the first of 6 schools in Gönyeli, which will be much more meaningful as it will meet a need.”


Stating that the Near East Enterprises has brought great value to the TRNC with the investments it has realized, Prime Minister Ersan Saner said, “Because of these values you add to our country, I owe a debt of gratitude to the whole Günsel Family on my own behalf, on behalf of my government and my people in the person of Dr. Suat Günsel and Prof. Dr. İrfan Suat Günsel.”
