The Fine Arts Maritime Exhibition and Ship Models Exhibition held in honor of Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Near East Enterprises Prof. Dr. İrfan Suat Günsel’s 40th birthday was opened by President Ersin Tatar at the Near East Art Museum.

After the Dardanelles Naval Warship Models Exhibition, which was opened last month at the Near East University Grand Library exhibition hall, Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts continues to open exhibitions consisting of naval and maritime themed collections. Opened at the Near East Art Museum with the participation of President Ersin Tatar, the Fine Arts Maritime Exhibition brings together 45 marine-themed works of the faculty members of the Near East University Faculty of Fine Arts and Design. The 382nd exhibition of the Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts includes painting, sculpture, illustration and printmaking.

The Ship Models Exhibition, which was opened, includes realistic models of important ships such as the Fenerbahçe Ferry, Aleppo Ferry, 1850 Beşiktaş, River Ship, Paşabahçe Ferry, Baştarde, Bandırma Ferry, Savarona Yacht and Söğütlü Yacht. In addition to the models of İsmail Topal, the works of artist İsmail Gündoğan, a doctoral student at Near East University, were also presented to art lovers in the exhibition.

At the opening ceremony of the exhibitions organized in honor of Near East Enterprises Chairman of Board of Trustees Prof. Dr. İrfan Suat Günsel’s 40th birthday, President Ersin Tatar, Vice Rector of Near East University Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ and Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design of Near East University Prof. Dr. Erdal Aygenç made speeches.


President Ersin Tatar: “The works created with great efforts by esteemed artists reflect our present and future as well as our past and history in the Blue Homeland Mediterranean.”
In his speech, who started by celebrating İrfan Suat Günsel’s 40th birthday, Ersin Tatar, said, “The works created with great efforts by esteemed artists reflect our present and future as well as our past and history in the Blue Homeland Mediterranean.” Stating that he encounters new works every time he visits the Near East University campus, President Ersin Tatar said that as a flagship the Near East Enterprises continue to bring important values to our country in culture, art, education and industry.


Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ: “Even though the target we dream of reaching is on the horizon, we still have a long way to go.”
Starting his speech saying, “We are together at the Near East Art Museum, where a very important mission of the Near East Enterprises and the GÜNSEL Family materialize and touch the human spirit,” Near East University Deputy Rector Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ, emphasized the importance of the 40th age in human life, and reminded that the exhibitions held in honor of the 40th birthday of Prof. Dr. İrfan Suat Günsel, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Near East Enterprises. Saying “When I look back, he took over the management of the Near East Enterprises, the flagship of our country and our region, when he was still in his early 30s, and what he accomplished during this time is an indication that our teacher İrfan acquired the deep understanding brought by the age of 40 long ago.”, Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ also mentioned about the achievements of the Near East Enterprises.

Prof. Dr. Şanlıdağ said, “During its nearly half-century life, the Near East Enterprises have always been a flagship that set the vision for our Northern Cyprus in science, education, health, art and culture. We have come a long way both as an institution and as a country. Under the guidance of our teacher and leader İrfan Suat Günsel, our esteemed Near East University and Kyrenia University, which have made their names much higher every year in the world with their scientific productivity and education quality, have been persistently continuing to prove our existence as the TRNC to the rest of the world with the national and domestic car of our country, GÜNSEL, our local PCR kits, our domestic vaccine development studies, our artistic productivity that beautifies our daily life, soul and eyes.”

Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ at the end of his speech celebrating İrfan Suat Günsel’s 40th birthday, said: “On behalf of each member of the Near East Family, I sincerely would like to say that we believe in you, trust you and are proud with you as our captain. Happy birthday to you, so glad we have you.”


Prof. Dr. Erdal Aygenç: “A new star is being added to our chain of museums. The Teal Ship will be a historical light, especially for the younger generations, with the Maritime History Museum it will transform into.”
Referring to the importance of maritime in the history and culture of Cyprus, Near East University Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design Prof. Dr. Erdal Aygenç said, “Our exhibitions, which bring together the maritime and maritime-themed works of our faculty artists and the realistic ship models of İsmail Topal and İsmail Gündoğan, are held in honor of the 40th birthday of Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Near East Enterprises, Prof. Dr.İrfan Suat Günsel and this is also a special honor for us.”

Sharing their excitement for the Maritime History Museum to be opened soon, Prof. Dr. Erdal Aygenç said, “A new star is being added to our chain of museums. The Teal Ship will be a historical light, especially for the younger generations, with the Maritime History Museum it will transform into.”

Prof. Dr. Erdal Aygenç completed his speech by reading Can Yücel’s 40-year-old-themed poem “Invitation” in honor of Prof. Dr. İrfan Suat Günsel, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Near East Enterprises.
