The Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts’ “New Academic Year September Exhibition” was opened by President Ersin Tatar at the Near East University Atatürk Culture and Congress Center Exhibition Hall

The “New Academic Year September Exhibition”, which was opened after the Near East University “2024-2025 Academic Year Opening Ceremony and is the first exhibition of the new academic term, was opened by President Ersin Tatar at the Near East University Atatürk Culture and Congress Center Exhibition Hall.

The exhibition, which was opened with intense participation and brought together the works of 20 award-winning academic artists of the Near East University Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, consists of 50 works of paintings, sculptures, ceramics and prints. At the opening of the exhibition, President Ersin Tatar, Near East University Rector Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ and Near East University Faculty of Fine Arts and Design Dean Prof. Dr. Erdal Aygenç gave speeches.

The exhibition, which is the 465th exhibition of the Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts, can be visited free of charge until October 15.

President Ersin Tatar: “In New York, we will tell the realities of Cyprus once again in the international arena.”

President Ersin Tatar started his speech by touching on the “New Future for Cyprus: A Two-State Solution” course given at the “2024-2025 Academic Year Opening Ceremony” held before the exhibition. President Ersin Tatar stated that he tried to explain why there are two separate peoples and states in Cyprus and said, “You remember the topics I talked about in the opening lesson. You met the artificial intelligence-based academic AI. Prof. DUX developed by the Near East University, and now you have met with 50 works brought together by artists from many different cultures. You see once again the stage that the TRNC has reached today.”

Speaking about his upcoming visit to New York, President Ersin Tatar said that he will set out to tell the truths of Cyprus once again in the international arena. President Ersin Tatar said “We live in one of the most beautiful places in the world, on an island that has become the center of art and culture. I am happy to see that the new works that emerged at the Near East University, where many different cultures come together, shed light on us. I congratulate all the artists who have made these precious works and wish them success in the new academic year.”

Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ: “We are determined to raise future generations as more equipped and creative individuals.”

Near East University President Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ said, “These openings, which reinforce our belief that humanity can only progress with the harmony of art and science, combine our scientific studies with aesthetics.”

Stating that art and science are the two most important forces in the development of society, Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ said, “Societies can move towards a more just, creative and sustainable future if these two areas progress together. With this understanding, we are determined to raise future generations as more equipped and creative individuals.”

Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ also said, “I hope the new academic year will be a process in which individual achievements and new discoveries contribute to social progress. Every step taken with the light of science and the guidance of art will be a brick in the construction of a brighter future for humanity. I hope the new period we have started with this exhibition will be a productive process crowned with academic achievements.”

Prof. Dr. Erdal Aygenç: “Art gives birth to limitless thoughts and opens limitless horizons.”

Speaking at the opening of the “New Academic Year September Exhibition” Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design at Near East University, Prof. Dr. Erdal Aygenç said, “Art education is a process that allows students to reveal their creative potential and offers opportunities to learn through experience.”

“During this education process, students define problems in the fields of art and design and develop solution suggestions with the discoveries they obtain as a result of research and experiments,” said Prof. Dr. Aygenç, and added; “They gain the ability to analyze the relationships of objects with both their internal structures and their environment at an intellectual level. In this way, they develop an original language of expression suitable for their individual characteristics and gain the competence to express themselves creatively.”

Stating that the greatest privilege of students studying at Near East University is to be on a university campus that establishes museums, develops museums and is decorated with artworks, Prof. Dr. Erdal Aygenç said, “The presence of our faculty members who constantly produce works in different fields of art offers a unique learning experience for our students. This creative and inspiring environment plays an important role in their artistic development.”
