The “Azerbaijan Independence Day Exhibition”, organized by the Near East University and the Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts, which brings together the cultural arts of the Turkish world under one roof, in honor of the 105th anniversary of Azerbaijan’s independence, will bring together the artworks of 54 Azerbaijani artists. The special exhibition, which will be opened by President Ersin Tatar on Friday, May 26 at the Near East University Hospital Exhibition Hall, will be open to visitors free of charge until June 2.

The Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts, which is the largest contemporary art museum not only in Cyprus but also in the region with over 50 thousand works of art, brings together the culture of the Turkish world under the same roof with its rich collections of works of artists belonging to 14 Turkish communities. The works of Azerbaijani artists in the collection of the Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts have a significant variety.

The first independent republic of the Muslim East!
On May 28, 1918, the independence of the Republic of Azerbaijan, which was established 105 years ago as the first democratic republic of the Muslim East, was declared by the Azerbaijan National Council chaired by Mehmet Emin Resulzade. The first country to recognize the independence of Azerbaijan was the Ottoman Empire. In the first independence period, which ended with the occupation of Soviet Russia in 1920, Azerbaijan, within a short time, made reforms in the fields of economy, education, freedom of religion and conscience, giving equal rights to all citizens. The Republic of Azerbaijan declared its independence on October 18, 1991, and gained its freedom for the second time.

The independence of Azerbaijan, one of the most important parts of the Turkish world, will be celebrated in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus with the “Azerbaijan Independence Day Exhibition” organized by the Near East University and the Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts in honor of the 105th anniversary of Azerbaijan’s independence.

Emphasizing that Azerbaijan is one of the most important parts of the Turkish world, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Near East Enterprises Prof. Dr. İrfan Suat Günsel said, “We sincerely celebrate the 105th independence day of Azerbaijan, one of the most important representatives of the Turkish world, which we are connected to each other by a common bond of history, culture, and art.”

Stating that they built a cultural bridge reaching the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus by bringing together the common culture, history and art of the Turkish world under one roof with the Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts project on the Near East University campus, Prof. Dr. İrfan Suat Günsel said, “Artworks made by Azerbaijani artists hold a very special place in our rich collection of 50 thousand pieces, consisting of works by artists belonging to 14 Turkish communities.”
