NEU-RA 25 has printed the name of TRNC in golden letters in Africa

Covering 2000 km distance, NEU-RA 25 produced by the Near East University crossed the finish line in the 8th position at Sasol Solar Challenge, which was an eight-day endurance international solar-car race on challenging routes involving ten cities of South Africa. NEU-RA 25 has taken its place as the world’s best 8th team on the leaderboard.

According to the press release from the Directorate of Press and Public Relations Office of NEU (Near East University Nicosia, Cyprus), Sasol Solar Challenge reached its end. After covering challenging distances in rough weather conditions, teams reached the finale in Cape Town on October 4. Covering 2000 km main route, NEU-RA 25 produced by the Near East University crossed the finish line in the 8th position at Sasol Solar Challenge, which was an international eight-day endurance solar-car race on challenging routes involving ten cities of South Africa.

İ. Günsel: Universities do not recognize any embargo…

According to the press statement, Sasol Solar Challenge is an international solar-powered car race organized biennially and the 4th of it was held this year. In the 4th Sasol Solar Challenge the Near East University represented TRNC with NEU-RA 25. Alongside the Near East University from the Republic of Northern Cyprus, the teams from the most demanding universities including Delft University of Technology from The Netherlands, Anadolu University from Turkey, and local universities from South Africa including North West University, University of Johannesburg, Maragon Private School Olympus, Tshwane University of Technology, University of Kwa-Zulu Natal, University of Witwatersrand and Cape Town University participated in Sasol Solar Challenge.

Touching upon NEU’s commitment to representing the Republic of Northern Cyprus at international platforms, Assoc. Prof. Dr. İrfan Günsel said: “Universities recognize no embargoes. The Near East University has risen from the bosom of Turkish Cypriots. Our people make up the core value of our fundamental objectives. The accomplishments, which have been achieved by NEU on behalf of our country by virtue of resoluteness and perseverance of our people, have gained acceptance by the world. Our Republic has begun to take place at international platforms more frequently than ever before and this is the most concrete evidence of this global acceptance.”

TRNC flag waved in ten cities of South Africa, three of which are capitals…

Endorsed by International SolarCar Federation (ISF), Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), and World Wildlife Fund (WWF), the Sasol Solar Challenge kicked off on September 27. The teams hit the road at the administrative capital Pretoria and made their way towards the Judicial capital Bloemfontein and then to the other cities on the route before reaching the finish line in the legislative capital Cape Town. During 8 day endurance race, from Pretoria to Cape Town, throughout ten cities, NEU-RA 25 represented the Republic of Northern Cyprus in the best way and waved its flag proudly.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. İrfan Günsel gives the good news concerning the production of new solar-powered car NEU-RA 26…

Highlighting the importance of solar energy for the future of the world, Assoc. Prof. Dr. İrfan Günsel stated that they would attach greater importance on cultivating electric vehicle engineers by accelerating the studies. “Our students, teaching staff and administrative have gained great experience at Sasol Solar Challenge. Under the light of our experiences and through NEU’s vast opportunities, we will keep working on solar-powered vehicles. In a short time, we will produce a four-wheeled solar-powered race car which will be designed to harvest and use solar energy more efficiently. We aim to participate in international solar car races and dominate the races with our new solar-powered race car” noted Günsel.

Touching upon the developments regarding the electric cars, Assoc. Prof. Dr. İrfan S. Günsel said: “Projects on electric cars are likely to be further developed through innovative research studies, and new technologies might be offered to the market. As long as innovative research studies are conducted, the Near East University may be able to work on producing an electric vehicle for four-person-family.”

Assoc. Prof. Dr. İrfan Günsel and his accompanying delegation including the Board of Directors Member Ahmet Savaşan and General Coordinator Görkem Bulunç along with the team of NEU-RA 25 are expected to return to the island on Monday.
