The Civil Aviation Department of the Ministry of Public Works and Transportation and University of Kyrenia signed a protocol on the organization of training flights for pilot candidates.
According to the written statement made by the Ministry, the protocol was signed by Civil Aviation Department Director Mustafa Sofi, Civil Aviation Department Air Traffic Control Branch Chief Toycan Özdoğanlar and University of Kyrenia Vice Rector and Director in Charge of Approved Training Organization (Flight School) Prof. Dr. Gökmen Dağlı.
Thanks to the fact that training flights, which are not available in many countries of the world and Europe, can be carried out in the TRNC, TRNC citizens who have previously participated in training flights in Turkey and Southern Cyprus will be able to carry out their training flights in their own countries.
In addition, foreigners who do not have training flights in their own country will also be able to make their training flights in the TRNC.
Training flights will take place over Karpaz
The protocol, which was approved by Erhan Arıklı, Minister of Public Works and Transport, was prepared in order to determine the conditions under which University of Kyrenia licensed pilot students can perform PIC (Pilot in Command) training flights with aircraft belonging to University of Kyrenia and the mutual responsibilities of the parties regarding the flights to be made from Ercan Airport.
According to the protocol, PIC training flight activities to be carried out within the control area of Ercan Airport will be carried out on the designated route within the framework of international and national rules. Accordingly, the training flights that will start from Ercan Airport for pilot training will take place over the Karpaz Peninsula.
Contribution to country promotion
Minister of Public Works and Transport Arıklı stated that one of the two ways of transportation to the country is by air and that the development of civil aviation in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus is very important.
Arıklı said, “As the great leader Atatürk said, the future is in the skies for the Turkish Cypriots. For this reason, we are always ready to support the development of civil aviation in our country and our institutions that will train qualified personnel to work in this sector, especially pilots. In addition to the fact that training flights will be made for the first time, the fact that foreigners who do not have the opportunity to make training flights in their countries will be able to make training flights in the TRNC is a very valuable development in terms of the promotion of both our educational institutions and our country. May it be auspicious for our country.”
