University of Kyrenia and Istanbul University has signed a protocol regarding academic cooperation on scientific, cultural, artistic and educational relations.
The new protocol that signed at Istanbul University Rectorate aims to facilitate academic staff and student exchange between two universities and enhance academic excellence by realizing joint scientific research and publications, joint scientific tours and joint conferences as well as cultural, artistic and sporting activities.
According to the press release issued by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations Office of the University of Kyrenia, a committee consisting of NEU Founding Rector Dr. Suat İ. Günsel, University of Kyrenia acting Rector Prof. Dr. İlkay Salihoğlu and NEU vice Founding Rector Tümer Garip visited Istanbul University in order to attend the signing ceremony of the academic cooperation protocol. The committee was welcomed by Istanbul University Rector Prof. Dr. Mahmut Ak, two vice rectors, deans of two faculties, and Istanbul University Rector Counselor. The signing ceremony took place at the Istanbul University Rectorate. On behalf of the parties, University of Kyrenia acting Rector Professor Salihoğlu and Istanbul University Rector Professor Mahmut Ak signed the protocol regarding comprehensive academic cooperation.
Within the scope of the protocol, the parties will carry out joint scientific studies and publications and educational activities in compliance with international standards
Within the frame of the protocol, parties will carry out joint studies in compliance with international standards to enhance quality and excellence in education offered by the faculties, schools and institutions that affiliated with the parties. The protocol lays ground for conducting joint projects, scientific research and publications.
Protocol lays ground for academic staff and student exchange between two universities
Protocol comprises terms and provisions for academic staff and student exchange. Academic staff exchange will be actualized provided that joint programs of study are determined and the parties are notified in advance. Besides, in accordance with specified quotas and conditions, mutual student exchange for internship can be actualized.
Joint scientific conferences and activities regarding the promotion of the universities will be carried out…..
Within the terms and provisions set by the cooperation protocol, the University of Kyrenia and Istanbul University will organize joint scientific meetings such as conferences, symposia, congresses and workshops. Cultural, sporting and artistic activities will be held and parties will invite each other to such events. All activities will comprises works regarding the promotion of both universities.

Touching upon the significant role of establishing academic collaborations in enhancing the quality in education and contributing to science, University of Kyrenia acting Rector Professor İlkay Salihoğlu delivered information regarding the academic cooperation protocol that they signed with Istanbul University. “We are extremely satisfied with signing a comprehensive protocol regarding scientific, cultural, artistic and educational cooperation with Istanbul University of which origin rooted back to the conquest of Istanbul in 1453. By signing this protocol, we have taken a concrete step towards establishing strong cooperative relations that will contribute not only to the parties but also to science. I think, this protocol will always be a luminous guide that light the way for us. Currently 11 Faculties offer education under the umbrella of University of Kyrenia. Faculties corresponding to our 11 faculties are present within the body of Istanbul University; this point is especially very significant as it makes it possible establishing cooperation covering all faculties and affiliated departments. I am certain that both universities can contribute to each other, education and science by working in cooperation and generating joint projects, scientific studies and academic activities in compliance with standards set by international bodies. I wish the protocol that we signed will be beneficial to both parties and science” said he.

Voicing his happiness of signing an academic cooperation protocol with the University of Kyrenia, Istanbul University Rector Professor Mahmut Ak delivered information regarding the protocol: “We are extremely happy that we have signed an academic cooperation protocol with the University of Kyrenia. Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus is of great importance for us. We are ready to work in cooperation with the University of Kyrenia on all projects, scientific studies and activities. We especially attach great importance on academic staff and student exchange programs; I have no doubt that both universities have a lot to contribute each other. I would like to attend personally to all short and long-term activities that will be held in TRNC. I believe that our academic staff along with the academic staff of the University of Kyrenia will actualize very significant studies together. We are ready to pave the way for the University of Kyrenia to make itself known in academic world. I wish the protocol will be beneficial for both universities” said he.
After the signing ceremony, the University of Kyrenia delegation committee toured the historical Rectorate building of Istanbul University and they were provided information regarding the history and development of the university by Rector Prof.Dr. Mahmut Ak. The acting Rector of University of Kyrenia Professor Salihoğlu and Istanbul University Rector Professor Ak presented a plaque to each other on behalf of their parties.
