According to the press statement issued by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations Office of the University of Kyrenia (Girne University, Cyprus), Turkey’s national air transportation has achieved great growth not only on national scale, but also at global level. A total of 49 airports open to regular flights, 54 heliports,173 aviation companies, 15 of which are airline companies, and a total of 1135 aircraft including 370 airline planes, and 47 ground handling companies including 3 A class ones, operate in Turkey. In terms of number of passengers carried, Turkey ranked 12th in the world and 6th in Europe in 2011. According to EUROCONTROL data, Turkey moved up from 7th in 2006 to the1st spot in 2012. The 2013 flight plan projections ranked Turkey as the 9th. According to EUROCONTROL report regarding the short-term, the growth rate for the aviation sector in Turkey is projected as % 7.3 for 2014 and % 7.1 for 2015.

What’s more, It is likely not possible for the civil aviation training institutions in Turkey to meet this need in the near future.
