In the “2022 World University Rankings” prepared by the London-based international higher education rating agency Times Higher Education (THE), Near East University is ranked first among Turkey and Cyprus universities, ranking in the 201-250 band among world universities in the field of “Engineering” and “Computer Sciences”.
Near East University, which is the only Turkish university to be among the top 250 universities in the world in the field of “Computer Sciences”, was also the only TRNC university to be enlisted in the general ranking in this field. In the same ranking, 8 universities from Turkey took place. Near East University, which is shown as one of the top 250 universities in the world in the field of “Engineering”, also came first among Turkey and Cyprus universities in this field.
Near East University ranks first in Computer Sciences in Turkey and Cyprus
The rankings prepared by the London-based higher education rating agency Times Higher Education every year according to the criteria of education, research, academic reference, industrial connections, international vision and teaching quality are closely followed all over the world.
According to the list announced by Times Higher Education, Near East University became the only Turkish university in the 201-250 band in the field of “Computer Sciences” this year. Near East University, which is also the only university in the TRNC to find a place in this field, came first in Cyprus. One university from TRNC, 2 from Southern Cyprus and 8 from Turkey took place in the ranking.
Among the top 250 universities in the world for engineering
Near East University achieved another important success in the field of “Engineering” by taking place in the 201-250 band in the world rankings. Near East University, together with Koç University, became one of the two Turkish universities in the 201-250 band in the “Engineering” category, which includes 36 universities from Turkey and two universities each from the TRNC and Cyprus.
Times Higher Education prepares the World University Rankings by evaluating universities in terms of education, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook. The World University Ranking, which has been carried out with an emphasis on the research mission since 2004, evaluates universities around the world according to 13 different criteria. The World University Rankings, which cover more than 1,500 institutions, are determined by the performance of universities in the last five years.
Stating that the Near East University is among the top 250 universities in the world in the fields of Engineering and Computer Science in the study conducted by Times Higher Education, which ranks the best universities in the world, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Near East University Prof. Dr. İrfan Suat Günsel said, “This success we have achieved as the Near East University is the product of a systematic strategy and vision.”
Emphasizing that the researches carried out for projects that combine science with production, such as the domestic car GÜNSEL and the domestic PCR kit and domestic nasal spray, The Super Computer, one of the most advanced computers of the region and a part of the projects carried out at CERN, located in the Innovation and Information Technologies Center operating within the Faculty of Engineering, the cutting-edge research and development laboratories using artificial intelligence and 3D technologies have made a great contribution to this success, Prof. Dr. İrfan Suat Günsel stated that with the addition of scientific research and projects to be produced by the Viral Vaccines Research and Production Center and the Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Institute, the Near East University will carry this success at a much higher level.
