Hakkı TOROS; one of the most experienced figures of the Turkish Marine Sector, visited the Faculty of Maritime Studies of University of Kyrenia

University of Kyrenia is continuing to make pioneering steps. Faculty of Maritime Studies of University of Kyrenia has been visited by the Head of the Board of Director of Izmir Branch of GEMIMO; Hakkı Toros, making this incident the first to be actualized on the island.

Hakkı Toros visited the University of Kyrenia to provide a seminar on `the significance of the marine sector and its expected future`.

At the seminar, in which particularly the students of the Department of Marine Engineering showed great interest, Faculty Dean Prof Dr Mustafa Altunç made a speech and informed the attendants of the current status of the faculty. Furthermore, Prof Altunç also emphasized the appreciation regarding the opportunity to share the knowledge and experiences of specialists who are known to be the best, the most successful and the most experienced.

Furthermore, Hakkı Toros; Director of Izmir Branch of GEMIMO and Chief Engineer, expressed his gratitude of being in such a distinguished university and provided information on the difficulties he encountered and of honouring experiences since the year he graduated from School of Maritime Studies in 1970. He added that he desired to share his experience with the students with the aim to provide guidance to the future careers of the students. Moreover, he facilitated information about the developments in the marine sector, on efforts put to extend the depreciation and signing authority for individuals within this sector and provided his suggestions relatively. Additionally, Hakkı Toros stated that there was a need to work at least six years in the open seas and that current position of the Turkish Marine was due to hard work and success. In this regard, he emphasized that there was a need to make further efforts to preserve the current status of the Turkish Marine. Once the speeches of the seminar, which had attracted much attention and interest, was completed, students were given the opportunity to ask questions. The seminar ended with the presentation of plaques.
