
The 5th 60+ Age Refreshment Olympics, held from June 18-20, 2025, at Süleyman Demirel University in Isparta, featured vibrant scenes and inspiring success stories. In this meaningful event, which saw the participation of seven universities from 13 campuses, the Girne University 60+ Age Renewal Team achieved a remarkable success, securing a total of seven medals at the Olympics.
In the Olympics, which featured intense competition across seven different disciplines—walking, 4×50-meter relay race, shot put, orienteering, volleyball, table tennis, and bocce—Girne University representatives achieved the following rankings, bringing pride to their institution:
- 4×50-meter Relay Race:
Our team, consisting of Hüsnü Özsağıroğlu, Rahime Yükler, Yeşim Mertli, and Adnan Fikretler, secured third place. - Shot Put – Women:
Hanife Hüregül took first place, while Rahime Yükler shared the podium with second place. - 1000-meter Speed Walking – Women’s 80-85 Age Category:
Özay Oğuz secured first place with an outstanding performance. - Orienteering:
- Women’s 80-85 Age Category: Özay Oğuz finished first
- Women’s 70-79 Age Category: Cahide Özüner finished second
- Women’s 60-69 Age Category: Yeşim Mertli came in third
The Girne University 60+ Age Renewal Team left a lasting impression on the event with both individual and team achievements. These Olympics, where participants exemplified the philosophy of lifelong learning and active aging, once again highlighted the unifying and motivating power of sports.
