Hüseyin Özgürgün, President of UBP, will be opening the exhibition themed “Cyprus and Naval History From Past to Present” on campus of University of Kyrenia at 14:30 on 26 November, Thursday.
The exhibition of “Cyprus and Naval History from Past to Present” organized within the scope of naval history studies of the University of Kyrenia will be opened by Hüseyin Özgürgün, President of UBP-National Union Party, at 14.30 on 26 December, Thursday (tomorrow), and will remain open for public visit.
According to the press statement released by the Press and Public Relations Directorate of University of Kyrenia, in exhibition, which is the first of its kind on the new campus of University of Kyrenia, several oil paintings depicting the Cyprus maritime history from ancient times to the present day, the models of the Kyrenia Boat and other vessels made of wood, Cyprus maps drawn by Piri Reis, various engravings and portolans depicted on Iznik tiles that tell about the Cyprus naval history will meet with visitors and remain open until 8 December 2015.
The curator of the exhibition of “Cyprus and Naval History from Past to Present”, which is an important step in raising awareness of naval history in public in visual and intellectual terms and an event where all aspects of Cyprus naval history are presented, is Prof. Ali Rıza İşipek, General Secretary of International Naval History Union and Director of Naval History Centre.
The exhibition, organized to bring in the rich naval heritage of Cyprus, which is a very important part of Levant geography, through the present day, introduce the way of living, habits, cultural aspects, skills in using sea, how they benefited from sea and how their wellfare increased due to the maritime relations of their ancestors to new generations, will be open to public between 26 November – 8 December 2015, between 10.00-16.00 hours.
