A delegation from the University of Kyrenia has paid a visit to President Derviş Eroğlu.

During the visit, the Vice Rector of the University Prof. Dr. İlkay Salihoğlu noted that the University of Kyrenia would begin training this year and added that they had realized this visit to provide information to the President Eroğlu about the goals of the University and to get his ideas concerning the issue.

Speaking first, Mr. Salihoğlu stated that they set out to create an institution which would provide education and training to satisfy the needs in the fields of maritime and aviation not only in the region but also in the world.
Touching upon the significance of the need for qualified seafarers all over the world, Mr. Salihoğlu stated that the demand was continuously increasing due to the insufficient number of qualified seafarers. He emphasized that they took the road aiming to attract students, who are maritime enthusiasts and who have high thinking and decision making skills, and pave the way for them to be qualified seafarers.

Stating that self taught pilot training was in trend until recent years, Salihoğlu indicated that there was also a need for university graduate aviators now. Touching upon the lack in the field of aviation in TRNC and Turkey, and as well as in the world, he voiced the commitment of the University of Kyrenia in providing educational opportunities to train highly qualified aviators.

Touching upon the high cost of receiving aviation education, Salihoğlu noted that they provided a kind of scholarship, which enables the students, who are talented but financially not able to afford their education, to pay only the basic educational expenses during their education and pay the other expenses after graduating from the university.

Touching upon the employment opportunities, Salihoğlu highlighted that both maritime and aviation are fields of education with employment guarantee.

Expressing happiness over President Eroğlu benefitting from the knowledge accumulation and expertise of the university academics for Cyprus negotiations, Salihoğlu indicated that it was the task of the universities to produce knowledge and opinions regarding any issue that deemed necessary by the state of TRNC.

Wishing good luck and success to the University of Kyrenia, the President Eroğlu noted that maritime and aviation were professions in demand.

Touching upon the fact that maritime and aviation are costly fields of education; Eroğlu indicated that the University solved the issue through providing scholarship opportunity. President Eroğlu stated that the University set its benchmarks and criteria as to produce well qualified and solid professionals by fostering talented students to enroll in these branches.

Stating that they were closely following and supporting the Near East University which not only provides quality education but also offers safe and quality health services with its university hospital, President Eroğlu noted that the developments were pleasing.

Eroğlu also emphasized that it was natural for presidency and governments to benefit from academics adding that there were academic staff both in the advisory board and negotiating team.
