Educational cooperation protocol was signed between the University of Kyrenia and the Mejlis of Tatar People of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea

University of Kyrenia and the Mejlis of Tatar People of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea were signed a protocol enabling mutual cooperation in the field of science, technology and education.

In order to ensure an international basis for relations between TRNC and Tatar people, the University of Kyrenia and the Mejlis of Tatar People of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea within Ukraine signed an educational cooperation protocol under the guidance of commercial, economical, technological, scientific and cultural cooperation protocols that signed between Turkey and Ukraine.

According to the press release issued by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations Office of the University of Kyrenia, the Mejlis of Crimean Tatar People would cooperate with the University of Kyrenia for the common interests of the parties. The cooperation protocol was signed by acting Rector Prof. Dr. İlkay Salihoğlu on behalf of the University of Kyrenia and by Tatar leader Mustafa Abdülcemil Kırımoğlu on behalf of Autonomous Republic of Crimea, Mejlis of Tatar People.

Students Exchange will be possible within the scope of the protocol

The protocol comprises terms and provisions enabling cooperation regarding the common interests of both parties and student exchange. In the line with the terms and provisions that defined by the protocol and in compliance with local legislation, the University of Kyrenia shall provide three Tatar students with education on scholarship every year. Tatar students can receive their education on scholarship at the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Faculty of Engineering and the Faculty of Maritime Studies. Besides, the protocol covers terms for student exchange programs.

Cultural relations will be strengthened…..

Within the scope of the protocol, the University of Kyrenia shall organize culture days, tours, artistic activities and symposia to promote Crimean Tatar culture.

Prof. Dr. İlkay Salihoğlu: I believe that the protocol that we signed will provide contribution to the parties as well as to science and both societies.

Delivering information at the signing ceremony, acting Rector Professor İlkay Salihoğlu drew attention to the significant role of such protocols in developing the relations on a sustainable basis. “By signing this protocol with Mejlis of Tatar People, we have taken a concrete step towards strengthening our relations with our consanguineous Tatar people and ensure contribution to both parties. Through research and development studies that we will conduct at international platforms and by means of educational opportunities that we will ensure for Tatar students, we will provide contribution to both parties and science as well. Education on scholarship opportunity for three Tatar students at three determined faculties of the University of Kyrenia will be enhanced and a higher number of students will be provided with such an opportunity in the coming years. Tatar students, who will receive education on full scholarship at our faculties, will be our guests and they won’t need to be in the expectation of financial support of their families. I would like to extend my appreciations to University of Kyrenia Founding Rector Cemre Günsel Haskasap and Mustafa Abdülcemil Kırımoğlu, Chairman of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea – Mejlis of Tatar People, for providing opportunity to sign such a significant cooperation protocol” said he.

Underlining his appreciation to Near East University Founding Rector Dr. Suat İ. Günsel, Crimean Tatar leader Mustafa Abdülcemil Kırımoğlu stated that many Crimean young people continue to benefit from educational opportunities that offered by Near East University within the frame of the protocol that signed in Crimea. “Education, science and culture have a very significant role in shaping the future of the next generations. In this context, the cooperation protocol that we have signed here today should be considered extremely important for our state and nation. I extend my appreciations to Turkish Cypriots on behalf of my people” said he.
