The 3rd President of the TRNC, who is being medically treated at the Near East University Hospital, Dr. Derviş Eroğlu was operated by Near East University Hospital Cardiovascular Surgery to remove the obstruction in his carotid artery (Carotid).
As 80 percent narrowing of the carotid artery was detected with tomographic angiography, the layers that cause the narrowing will be removed by a cardiovascular surgery team consisting of Prof. Dr. Askin Ali Korkmaz, Prof. Dr. Barçın Özcem and Assist. Prof. Dr. Özlem Balcıoğlu. The operation, which is one of the riskiest surgeries in vascular surgery, will be performed through a special technique in order to preserve brain functions. The operation is expected to be completed by noon.
On July 3, Dr. Derviş Eroğlu applied to the Near East University Hospital with complaints of high blood pressure and short-term loss of consciousness and was taken under observation for precautionary purposes. Derviş Eroğlu was inserted ICD (Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator) in the operation performed by Near East University Hospital Cardiology Department Head Prof. Dr. Hamza Duygu, Prof. Dr. Levent Cerit and Dr. Aziz Günsel on July 5. The ICD automatically detects the irregularity and returns the heart rhythm to normal with electroshock.
