Within the scope of the 2nd International Cinema Symposium held by the Near East University Communication Research Center (İLAMER) and the Faculty of Communication, “Digital Photography Selection” and “Short Film Selection” will be held for the first time this year. The deadline for applications where the works to be included in the competitions will be assessed and winners determined by the jury, is February 28, 2022.
Academicians from 40 universities will take part in the boards of the 2nd International Cinema Symposium, which will be hosted by Near East University in cooperation with nearly 20 universities from different countries of the world.
This year’s theme of the International Cinema Symposium, supported by the Turkic World Culture, Art and Cinema Foundation, Communication Research Association (ILAD), Economic Development and Social Research Institute (İKSAD), BRTK and E-Study Box, is “New, Innovation and Innovativeness”. The theme of the photography and short film selections to be organized within the framework of the symposium was also determined as “New”.
Artists will photograph the concept of “New” from their own perspectives
Artists who will participate in the photography selection to be held within the scope of the 2nd International Cinema Symposium will photograph the concept of “new” from their own perspectives. In their works, it is aimed for photographers to question the concepts of “innovation” and innovation in terms of photography from their own perspectives. The works to be accepted into the photography selection will be determined through the assessment of the jury, which includes valuable photographers, directors and academics. The jury formed under the chairmanship of Prof. Dr. Ali Bayraktaroğlu consists of Prof. Dr. Osman Ürper, Prof. Dr. Fevzi Kasap, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ahmet Beyhan Özdemir, faculty members Dr. Asli Erciyes Tosun and photographer and academician Gazi Yüksel, photographer Sami Türkay, photographer and academician Mert Yusuf Özlük, photographer and academician Hüseyin Aşkaroğlu and Dr. Birsel Matara.
The Short Film Selection is open to all university students studying at different communication and cinema schools around the world.
The theme of the Short Film Selection, which will be held within the scope of the symposium, has also been determined as “new”. Turkish Cypriot director Derviş Zaim will be the chairman of the elite jury, which is open to the participation of all university students studying at different communication and cinema schools in the world. Also in the jury; Prof. Dr. Fevzi Kasap, Assist. Prof. Dr. İzlem Kanli, Assist. Prof. Dr. Çağdaş Öğüç, Dr. Zehra Cerrahoğlu, Dr. Serkan Fundalar, Dr. Göral Erinç Yılmaz, instructors Murat Cem Acaralp, Zeyde Y. Örek, Mert Yusuf Özlük, Evren Maner and producers Süleyman Bedri Kalyoncuoğlu, Canol Balkaya and director Hayri Çölaşan will take place.
Authors of works selected in both categories, in addition to be granted the right that their works to be shown and exhibited on the symposium official page, will also be honored with various awards. Authors of the works can to submit their applications to participate in the photography and short film selections via icw.neu@neu.edu.tr until February 28, 2022.
