Highlighting that the establishment of the University of Kyrenia could be considered as one of the most outstanding steps covered to pave the way for the country towards new horizons, Tuncel stated that it was a historic milestone with regards to national interest.

Tuncel: It is aimed to make TRNC a globally renowned center on aviation and maritime education…

Touching upon the positive impacts of universities on a country, Tuncel spoke of:

“Today, our country has entirely developed into a country of universities. One out of every five person living in our country is a university student. This rate is much greater than the world average. Only one out of 180 people living in the country is a university student even in England that is known as one of the world’s most important countries of universities. Unlike other universities, the University of Kyrenia has accomplished a first and become the first university in the country established on solely maritime and aviation sciences offering education both in Turkish and English. In this context, the University of Kyrenia has both left a significant mark on country’s education history and also provided great contribution regarding national interest. There is a growing shortfall for qualified personnel in aviation industry. Based on the data provided by sector related organizations and institutions as well as respective state departments, aviation sector is one of the fastest growing ones in the world and consequently, the need for qualified aviators is rapidly increasing across the globe. What’s more, It is likely not possible to meet this need in the near future. Moreover, aviation education is very expensive. However the University of Kyrenia is committed to providing every possible educational opportunity for its students to receive the highest quality education available and pave the way for them to become highly qualified aviators. To this end, the University of Kyrenia, which currently has more than 650 students from 15 countries, keeps the public interest at the forefront and offers the students various scholarship and payment opportunities that has not been offered by any other institution of higher education so far. Works concerning the campus of the University of Kyrenia, which will be equipped with ultra modern technical and academic infrastructure, are ongoing rapidly. The first phase of the project will be brought into life with an investment of $ 80 million. When it comes into service, it is one of the fundamental objectives of the university to make TRNC a globally known center on maritime and aviation education. This will provide a major contribution to our country. We will make any sacrifice for this to happen ..”
