A prestigious future with University of Kyrenia in skies

Well-qualified pilots are trained at the Department of Pilotage of Faculty of Aviation and Space Sciences of University of Kyrenia which is the first and only university specializing on marine and aviation education and training. Pilotage training is getting more and more importance in our time and pilotage is regarded as a high-value profession in terms of economic and social status.

The geographical and climatic conditions of our country provide the students with great opportunities in aviation training. The climatic conditions in our country offer the chances to conduct flight training for at least 318 days a year, and as a result of low aviation traffic in our region, students can benefit from practical flight trainings during most of the time of the year.

Rapid developments in the aviation sector of the world both reveal and increase the demand to well-qualified and well-trained pilots. This need is increasing more as the market in aviation sector is expanding and new air lines are opening to various routes as well as the air fleets are getting larger in every corner of the world. According to data provided by Boeing, at least 460,000 new pilots and 601,000 new aircraft engineers and aircraft technicians are needed by 2032. In the motherland Turkey, which is one of the competitive countries in aviation sector, approximately 5000 pilots are working, of whom 750 are from third world countries.

Considering the restrictions of Civil Aviation Directorate of Turkey on employment of foreign pilots and short, medium and long term objectives of aviation sector of Turkey, the need to well-qualified pilots in aviation sector of Turkey is extremely large. In addition to this, considering the orders of aviation companies in Turkey, at least 350 new aircrafts will be put into service within the following 25 years. Moreover, taking the increasing needs for pilots who will fly business aircrafts, cargo flights, fire fighter aircrafts, aircraft ambulances, 800 new pilots are needed every year until 2020.

Mrs. Cemre Günsel Haskasap, the Founding Rector of University of Kyrenia, stated that the Department of Pilotage of University of Kyrenia was established in accordance with a carefully carried out needs analysis in the aviation sector which revealed that there is a growing demand and competition in world aviation sector. Haskasap, pointing out that fees of the aviation schools are nowadays growing fast as the attraction of aviation sector is increasing, said that University of Kyrenia is offering quite reasonable fees and provide employment guarantee after graduation.

Mrs. Cemre S. Günsel Haskasap expressed that, as a reflection of good will to provide the students with full support on their way leading to a professional career, the university is offering a new policy and package for fees and within the scope of this policy, students who will register to Department of Pilotage will benefit from employment guarantee and will pay the tuition fees after they start their professional career. During their education period, students will only pay the registration and social activity fees every year. Cemre Günsel Haskasap emphasized that this is an extraordinary offer and a great opportunity to study at the Department of Aviation.

Cemre S. Günsel Haskasap also stated that the medium of instruction at the Department of Pilotage is English and during four years of education and training period, students will take both theoretical, practical and elective courses, and training will be given in accordance with the provisions, terms and conditions of protocol signed with Yavrukuş Flight School. Students graduating from Department of Pilotage will have the Aviation Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL). Haskasap, in her speech, invited allstudents having TRNC citizenship to study at the Department of Pilotage, where at the end of their education period employment opportunities will be provided and fees will be paid after having a job.
