University of Kyrenia Foundation is organising a mathematics competition among primary schools to facilitate interaction among these schools and their students, expose different aspects of mathematics within the environment of a competition, increase the stduents’ motivation, positive attitudes and beliefs towards mathematics, and to provide a new perspective for the students.
According to the press info release issued by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations of University of Kyrenia, University of Kyrenia Foundation is organising a mathematics competition among primary schools. Each school is required to constitute a team of three students and a maximum of three teachers to support the students. It was expressed that successful teams will be rewarded such that; each participating students and teachers will be presented a certificate of participation. The competition will consist of three phases and as a result of the completion of the first phase of the competition, those who have achieved to move further to the second phase of the competition will be provided a success plaque; alongside their certificates of participation. Furthermore, the teams to complete the competition as first, first runner up, and second runner up will be awarded plaques expressing their achieved statuses.

It was pointed out that the school which wins the mathematics competition is to be awarded 3 computers and a tablet each to its teachers supporting the winning team. Moreover, the school which achieves to be the first runner up of the competition will be awarded 2 computers and the school to be second runner up is to be awarded a computer.
Contenders, independent from their teams, will be awarded scholarships, such that the winner will be granted “full scholarship for secondary education”; the first runner up will be granted “half-scholarship for secondary education”; and second runner up will be granted a “one quarter of a scholarship for secondary education.”

Application and Competition Dates…
It was revealed that the competition will be held in three phases and that registry to the competition was free of charge. The deadline of application is expressed to be extended to Monday, 18th April, 2016. The first phase of the competition will be held on 9th May, 2016; second will be on 10th May, 2016; and finally the third phase is to be held on 11th May, 2016. Moreover, the award ceremony of the competition will be on 11th May, 2016.
