Assist. Prof. Dr. Ediz Tuncel, General Secretary of University of Kyrenia, making a statement about the issue, emphasized that the major objective of the University of Kyrenia, which was established in order to bring in a new dynamism to aviation sectors of our country and of the world, is meeting the demands of public interests; in this respect, needs of civil aviation sector of Turkey and of our country have been taken into consideration in particular; the education and training provided by the Faculty of Aviation and Space Sciences at the international standarts will particularly contribute positively to advances of aviation sector of our country and of the nearby geography, and this will have positive impacts on sectors such as education, tourism, health tourism and commercial issues.

Assist. Prof. Dr. Tuncel in his statement also said, “Apart from that the major objective of the University of Kyrenia is focusing on the public interests, the university is also aiming to be a pioneering brand in training qualified staff for professional flight, aviation management and aviation logistics needs of Turkey and of the world. According to information provided by the civil aviation authorities, over 20 thousand passenger aircrafts are actively in service today. The civil aviation sector is planning to increase this number up to 40 thousand by 2030. Within the next 15 years, the need for qualified professional flight staff, aviation management staff and logistic support staff is over 600 thousand in the civil aviation sector. Only the annual need to professional flight pilots in aviation sector of of Turkey is over 500 and with the existing training institutions only 200 pilots can be trained a year. There is a need for at least 300 pilots every year and pilots from other countries are employed to meet the demand. Apart from this, according to data provided by ICAO in December 2014, the second fastest growing aviation company in the world is Turkish Airlines. In Turkey, there is a huge gap of qualified staff, and this gap is gradually increasing, and yet, this clearly indicates that it is not possible to meet the needs of the civil aviation sector of Turkey with the services of existing institutions. In this respect, a majority of our graduates will be employed in our national civil aviation sector of Turkey.”
