One of the most significant achievements of Cyprus Turkish sports history noted down. Near East University, taking place in the Final Group through which the short-listed teams would challenge to each other  to get the right to be promoted to Women’s Premier League of Turkey Basketball Federation, has beaten Mersin Basketball Club on its 7th and last match, and finalizing the group matches as the second most successful team in the list, promoted to the Premier League.

NEU, as a result of its superior performance throughout the match that was played in Yalova 90. Year Sports Hall, managed to win the match with a score 84-64. In its group having results of 6 wins and 1 defeat at the end of the group matches, promoted to Women’s Premier League, after Istanbul BGK which completed the group matches undefeated.

NEU Women’s Basketball Team turning back to island with Assoc. Prof. Dr. İrfan S. Günsel, Head of Board of Trustees of NEU, was greeted and welcomed by a magnificient crowd and press members at the Ercan Airport.

Günsel in his speech stated that they achieved the target of the previous season and now they have promoted to Premier League, and this season their target is keeping on in top 8 and participating in the European Cups. Günsel also said that they are ambitious, but they act by becoming aware of their potentials and the team of University of Kyrenia will also be made soon, with the main objective of training Cypriot players to team of NEU which is already in the Premier League.
