He was born on April 1, 1976, in Nicosia. After graduating from Türk Maarif college in 1993, he studied biology at the Faculty of Science at Ege University. In 1997 he conducted research for his Masters thesis on ‘The Flora of Gürle Village’ at the Department of Biology, Institute of Science at Celal Bayar University. From 2000-2005, he did a PHd at the Department of Biology, Faculty of Science at Ege University, His dissertation involved the protection of rare and endemic plant species and was on the "Conservation biology of Asperula daphneola and Minuartia nifensis". Since 2005, he has been the Head of the Department of Science and Education and Director of the Institute of Environmental Sciences at the Near East University. In January 2011 he became an Associate Professor.
