Hodjalı Genocide commemorated

Azerbaijani Students Union organized a conference titled “We are all from Hodjalı” in commemoration of victims killed in Hodjalı genocide in Azerbaijan by Armenian armed forces and militia. The conference held for the 22nd. Commemoration of the genocide.

Mrs. Cemre Günsel, the Founding Rector of University of Kyrenia, Prof. Dr. Fahreddin Sadıkoğlu, the Vice Rector of Near East University, lecturers and students from Near East University and University of Kyrenia, and Azerbaijan citizens living in North Cyprus participated in the conference.

Commemoration event for the massacre of 613 civilians, including 83 children and 106 women, started with one minute silence and singing of national anthems of Turkey and Azerbaijan.

Reşat Alakbarov delivered the opening presentation and extended his gratitudes to everyone contributed to the commemoration event, especially to Mrs. Cemre Günsel Haskasap, the Founding Rector of University of Kyrenia.

Prof. Dr. Fahreddin Sadıkoğlu delivered the opening speech of the conference and reminded that there are days of grief and victory in histories of countries, and this was one of days of deep sorrow in Azerbaijan history. Prof. Sadıkoğlu also emphasized the importance of arranging such an event of commemoration by Azerbaijan Students Union on such a day of sorrow.

Prof. Dr. Sadıkoğlu shared the historical facts about the Hodjalı Genocide act and the war of Karabağ, and pointed out the role and services of Azerbaijan President İlham Aliyev in developing the values of Azerbaijani youth.

Prof. Sadıkoğlu once more censured the massacre of Hodjalı, where 613 civilians were brutally killed in Hodjalı Village in January 1992, 22 years ago. Sadıkoğlu emphasized that massacre of Hodjalı people was an attrocity that cannot be explained through words and massacring innocent civilians was such a brutality beyond imagination. Sadıkoğlu said that such an act is not only against Azerbaijani people but all humanity. Sadıkoğlu also said that he sincerely believes that Azerbaijani Turks will return their motherlands sooner or later.

Prof. Dr. Cavanşir Guliyev, the lecturer of Faculty of Performing Arts, stated that although 22 years passed over the Hodjalı genocide, the pain and sorrow of this horrific incident is still fresh and cannot be forgotten, and Armenia must be judged before the world and humanity must call Armenia to give an account of the horrific incident. Prof. Guliyev said that they would never ever forget or let the Hodjalı massacre be forgotten.

The poem read by Vüsal Veyselzade, the student of Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences of NEU, on the Hodjalı genocide, caused emotional moments amongst the attendants.

The desk and stand where posters and brochures handed out about the Hodjalı Genocide attracted great attention by students coming from Turkey, Pakistan, Iran, Syria, Nigeria and other countries, as well. Students coming from other countries were horrified from the incident and raised questions about the incident.
