Great personnel shortfall in the civil aviation sector of Turkey…

According to the press statement issued by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations Office of the University of Kyrenia (Girne University, Cyprus), Civil aviation in Turkey is improving every year and becoming well known in the world as well. According to the General Directorate of Civil Aviation and Turkish Civil Aviation Assembly Sector Report, Turkey’s aviation sector will be in need of at least 6 thousand pilots and cabin crew in the next seven years. Some higher education institutions including universities with undergraduate and associate degree programs, vocational schools, and secondary education institutions provide diploma or certificate training on civil aviation. However, three universities and ten flight schools, which are certified for pilot training in Turkey, will be able to graduate only 1760 pilots within this period. The annual median cost of pilot training in schools in Turkey ranges from 30 thousand TL to 60 thousand euro, and 21 thousand euro for flight training are added to these figures. Alongside the need for 6 thousand pilots and cabin crew, twice as much of this figure is the number of the need for qualified management and logistic personnel in the next seven years.

All these departments with their highly qualified and experienced teaching staff and high-tech equipped infrastructures have the potential to respond to both regional and global need. The University of Kyrenia is the first and only university in Cyprus and Eastern Mediterranean region that specialized only on aviation and maritime education. Although it has a capacity for 4 thousand students, the university has limited the quota for student admission as 1200 in order to provide opportunities for each student to receive the best service and the possible highest quality education.
