Faculty of Maritime Studies of University of Kyrenia to bring in well-qualified Officers to Marine Fleet

Faculty of Maritime Studies ofUniversity of Kyrenia, which inherited the flags of Near East University, continues to bring in well-qualified marine officers to marine fleet of the world.

Graduates of Faculty of Maritime Studies of University of Kyrenia are conducting important duties and holding extensive responsibilities in pioneering institutions and foundations of maritime sector throughout the world.
According to press info released by Press and Public Relations Directorate of University of Kyrenia, the Dean of Faculty of Maritime Studies, Prof. Dr. Mustafa Altunç, stated that the university has been established at international standards, in full accordance with the requirements of International Maritime Organization and of Ministry of Transportation, Maritime and Communication of Turkey, and offers education and training using the most up-to-date technology available as well as providing students with extensive apprenticeship opportunities at seas worldwide. Prof. Altunç said, “We are the only university in the region specializing on maritime education and as the Faculty of Maritime Studies, we have the most qualified teaching and training staff. Besides, our faculty comprises the maritime training simulators at the international standards and the TEAL Research and Training Ship which is the only research and training ship in region. TEAL is 46 meters research ship in length and comprises labs where data obtained throughout the studies can be processed on spot”.

Altunç also expressed that the University of Kyrenia was established in accordance with the rules and regulations of YODAK (Higher Education Council of TRNC), YOK (Higher Education Council of Turkey), the World Maritime Organization, and conducts its studies in full accordance with International Convention of Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping of Seafarers (STCW 95) with the STCW 2010 Manila Amendments. The University of Kyrenia, with its three faculties specializing on maritime studies and marine sciences, and six departments of these faculties, offers extensive education opportunities in all maritime issues, including theoretical and practical studies on maritime issues, Maritime Law, port management and design, terminal services, marine insurance issues and so on.

Altunç finalized his words saying that several hundreds of graduates of Faculty of Maritime Studies are in service of maritime sector in the seas surrounding the world and this is a precious source of proud for the university.
