Mr. Adem Aköl was born on 14 July 1952, Lefkoşa, North Cyprus. He completed his elementary and secondary educations in Limassol. Then he attended to the Middle East Technical University, Ankara , and graduated from the department of Civil Engineering in 1976.
He was a construction site engineer of an irrigation project at the South-East region of Turkey during 1976 and 1977. After that, he was sent to another irrigation project Lower Khalis, Baghdad, Iraq for sixteen months.
He was one of the first four lecturers between 1978 and 1980 of the Higher Technological Institute, Magosa, North Cyprus which was the foundation structure of the Eastern Mediterranean University.
Between 1981 and 1989 he was the Deputy Project Manager of the Jute-Farm Irrigation Project Iraq, Deputy Project Manager of the Amarra Irrigation Project, South Iraq and then the Project Manager of the 11 bridges, connecting Baghdad to the north, on the Tharthar-Tigris Irrigation Channel, one of the biggest projects of Iraq called “The Third River of Iraq” . His achivement in completing of these projects succesfully brought him as an internationally recognized specialist.
At the end of 1989 he returned to his home country and till 1994 completed many big projects as the director of the “Alia Construction Ltd ”.
Since 1994 he is one of the members of the Near East University family. He is responsible of the physical development of the university as the Head of the Department of Planing, Design, Construction and Maintenance. Since 2010 he is the Vice Chairman of Board of Trustees and member of the Near East University Hospital Executive Committee.
