Aim of the Program
Medical Documentation and Secretarial Program is designed in line with the international vocational standards to train students through right education and produce well qualified medical record technicians or secretaries who conduct secretariat duties for private and public health institutions. The aim of the program is to educate qualified personnel who can work on recording systems and documentation of the health institutions in line with the demands of the era and can manage all kinds of information and document processes by recording and archiving files of patient information while under the care of a health care professional. Medical documentation is essential to provide information relevant to the care of the patient in order to implement treatment, testing and procedures.
The Near East University is committed to train students and equip them with professional skills in line with the demands of era at international standards. The Department of NEU Information and Document Management provides students with comprehensive and leading edge education programs. The Department of NEU Information and Document Management is a four-year degree program and it constitutes the basis of Medical Documentation and Secretarial Program. The graduates of Medical Documentation and Secretarial program are awarded with a diploma and entitled as Medical Record Technician. Graduates will be employed at the medical facilities such as private or public hospitals, clinics, polyclinics, surgery departments and emergency departments. They can also be employed in the administrative units such as healthcare commission, patient acceptance, patient files units. Owing to the increasing need of the era, the graduates of this program are in ever increasing demand from all the private and state health institutions.
Medical record technicians or Medical Documentation and Secretarial technicians have a lot in common with many other medical technicians. The aim of the program is to educate medical technicians and secretaries needed in field of medical documentation and secretariat of the health care institutions to arrange and archive all kinds of information and documents. In addition to keeping patient records and archiving the patient files and other documents and reports deemed necessary, the Medical Record Technicians and Secretaries are also responsible for classifying the transactions in accordance with the international classification system and coding them, compiling and analyzing the data on medical statistics with scientific methods and report their results to the relevant authorities periodically. This program is based on a two-year education and training period including theoretical and practical courses. Practical courses are carried out at the Hospital of Near East University and at the Department of Information and Document Management. These programs include courses in anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, mathematics, information technology, filing and archiving. Courses in database management, coding, diseases, professional ethics, First Aid, keyboard, secretarial and medical knowledge management are also included. The program aims to train the students at international standards and produce skilled professionals who can keep up with the knowledge based and technological developments, and equipped with professional competence in planning and developing the managerial processes and possess the ability to carry out disciplinary and interdisciplinary teamwork.

Besides, we are committed to equip our students with professional skills which enable them to classify the information and data and code- compile and analyze the data on medical statistics with scientific methods and share the results with the relevant staff.
