The Senate of the University of Kyrenia has decided the establishment of the Faculty of Education, the Faculty of Law, the Faculty of Architecture, the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences and the Faculty of Engineering under the umbrella of the University of Kyrenia.
Taking its place in the newly established campus located on the coastal line of the city of Kyrenia, the University of Kyrenia, is adding 5 new faculties with 17 departments to its current structure consisting of 4 faculties, 12 departments and 2 schools.
According to the press release issued by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations Office of the University of Kyrenia, five new faculties consisting of the Faculty of Education, the Faculty of Law, the Faculty of Architecture, the Faculty of Economics & Administrative Sciences, and the Faculty of Engineering with 17 new departments would be established and brought into service in the academic year 2015-2016 in the line with the decision concluded by the Senate of the University of Kyrenia, which is a hub of science that become the new center of attraction of Kyrenia. Committed to making a difference by steering the wheel of science towards the future within the frame of its innovative vision and contemporary approach to education, the University of Kyrenia continues to grow by opening new horizons with its new faculties and departments to be opened.
Alongside the five faculties and 17 departments to be opened in the new academic year, the University of Kyrenia currently houses four faculties with 12 departments and two vocational schools that solely focused on aviation and maritime studies. The faculties and departments which are currently available are as follow: The Department of Maritime Transportation Management Engineering (Deck), and the Department of Marine Engineering under the body of the Faculty of Maritime Studies, the Department of Maritime Transportation and Logistics and the Department of Maritime Management under the body of the Faculty of Maritime Management, the department of Marine Biology, Ecology & Oceanography and the Department of Fishery Technology Engineering under the body of the Faculty of Marine Sciences, the Department of Civil Air Transport Logistics, the Department of Pilotage, the Department of Aeronautical Engineering, and the Department of Civil Air Transport Management under the body of the Faculty of Aviation and Space Sciences, the Department of Maritime Transportation and Management, the Department of Ship Machinery Management, and the Department of Maritime and Port Management under the body of the Maritime Vocational School.

The following faculties and the departments affiliated with these faculties will be opened in the line with the decision concluded by the Senate of the University of Kyrenia:
Faculty of Education: The teaching medium of the faculty is Turkish.
Departments: Department of Psychological Counseling and Guidance, Department of Turkish Language Teaching, Department of Mentally Handicapped Teaching, Department of Pre-School Teaching.
Faculty of Law: The teaching medium of the Faculty is Turkish.
Departments: Department of Law.
Faculty of Architecture: The teaching medium of the faculty is Turkish.
Departments: Department of Architecture, Department of Interior Architecture, Department of Industrial Design.
Faculty of Economics & Administrative Sciences: The Teaching medium of the faculty is English.
Departments: Department of Banking and Finance, Department of Computer Information Systems, Department of Business Administration, Department of International Relations, Department of Tourism and Hotel Management.
Faculty of Engineering: The teaching medium of the faculty is English.
Departments: Department of Computer Engineering, Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Department of Civil Engineering, Department of Mechanical Engineering.

Delivering explanation on the issue, Prof. Dr. Ilkay Salihoğlu, Vice Rector of the University of Kyrenia, stated that international higher education criteria, Kyrenia city’s structure and its developmental vision, the expectations of Kyrenia’s people, and social benefit-oriented studies aimed at actualizing the integration of Kyrenia with the world in practical and scientific sense was taken into consideration and all issues were evaluated carefully while taking the decision regarding the establishment of the new faculties and departments. Underlining that they had created a higher education institution befitting Kyrenia, Professor Salihoğlu said that they set foot on the road to ensure quality education with the most up-to-date scientific technology and infrastructure, adding that they decided to open 17 new departments under the umbrella of 5 new faculties in order to offer high quality education and training on a wider spectrum focused on addressing to the city’s, country’s, region’s and the world’s needs that ranging from micro to macro level.
