The Autonomous Republic of Gagauzia and the University of Kyrenia, which is the first and only maritime and aviation university of TRNC, signed a protocol regarding educational, health, social, and cultural cooperation between the parties.

According to the press release issued by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations Office of the University of Kyrenia, in order to ensure a well established cooperation on education including aviation and maritime studies, a protocol, which also involves terms for cooperation on social and cultural issues, was signed between the Autonomous Republic of Gagauzia and the University of Kyrenia. Irina Vlah, the President of the Autonomous Republic of Gagauzia, and Prof. Dr. İlkay Salihoğlu, the Chairman of the Board of trustees of the University of Kyrenia, signed the protocol on behalf of their parties.

Delivering a speech at the signing ceremony, Irina Vlah, the President of Autonomous Republic of Gagauzia, underlined the crucial role of the protocol in ensuring quality education for Gagauz students and contributing to the development of her country. “The contribution to be provided by the University of Kyrenia especially in the fields of maritime and aviation as well as on other issues within the frame of the protocol, will be a great support to the development of Gagauzia and its future. The educational opportunities provided by the University of Kyrenia will pave the way for the Gagauz youth in the aviation and maritime sectors. I appreciate the contributions to be provided for my country by the University of Kyrenia and I feel pride as well. The protocol of cooperation that I signed with the University of Kyrenia will make the people of our countries closer and further develop the relations between Gagauz people and Turkish Cypriots” said the President Vlah. Following the signing ceremony, President Vlah presented gifts that symbolize the cultural values of her country to the Chairman of Board of Trustees Professor Ilkay Salihoğlu.

Delivering a speech at the signing ceremony of the protocol, University of Kyrenia Board of Trustees Chairman Professor Ilkay Salihoğlu said that they felt the honor of hosting the President Vlah and appreciated her intimacy in signing the protocol regarding educational cooperation between the Autonomous Republic of Gagauzia and the University of Kyrenia.”Within the frame of the protocol of cooperation on aviation and maritime education, the University of Kyrenia, which is the first and only university in TRNC and nearby geography that focused solely on aviation and maritime studies, has provided educational opportunities for the youth of Gagauzia. We will attach a distinguished importance on training the young people of Gagauzia as well as equipping them with high quality skills and information especially on aviation and maritime issues. As the protocol comprises provisions on cultural and social collaborations, it will contribute to further improve the existing brotherly relations between Gagauz people and Turkish Cypriots” said he.

Following the signing ceremony of the protocol, Prof. Dr. Ilkay Salihoğlu presented a memoir plaque of the University of Kyrenia to Irina Vlah, the President of the Autonomous Republic of Gagauzia.

Before returning her country, President Irina Vlah will have talks with the governmental officials and attend the meal to be given in her honor by TRNC Assembly Speaker Sibel Siber.
