A Chess Tournament was held between Primary Schools within the Kyrenia District through the cooperation between University of Kyrenia Foundation, Çatalköy Primary School and Chess Education Centre

Besides formal education provided in the Kyrenia region, University of Kyrenia Foundation contributes by providing developments in the fields of social, cultural, economic and health. The Foundation has recently organised a Chess Tournament by cooperating with the Chess Education Centre and Çatalköy Primary School. It was revealed that 45 chess players from Primary Schools of Esentepe, Çatalköy, 23 Nisan, Dikmen, Karşıyaka and Alsancak participated in the tournament.

According to the press info release issued by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations of University of Kyrenia, Head of Chess Education Centre Ali Sener made an opening speech at the tournament and said: “I have a dream. In order to make tomorrow a better day than today, learn and teach to play chess!” He ended his words by expressing many thanks to everyone who participated in realizing the event.

It was pointed out that a total of 45 chess players had taken part in the chess tournament and that these participants were from primary schools in the Kyrenia district. As a result, Dikmen Primary School won first prize, Esentepe became the first runner up, and 23 Nisan Primary School became second runner up. It was added that the first three players were given cups and various awards. Furthermore, it was stated that certificate of participation was given to all participating chess players.

In addition to the above, participant players expressed that they were hosted well and that they were very happy to have taken part in such an event. They added their future wishes for people to continue to teach and play chess in the future.
