University of Kyrenia gives Amateur Seamen to set sail to the oceans

With the support of the University of Kyrenia Continuing Education Centre, TR Ministry of Transport, Marine and Communication, General Directorate of Marine and Continental Waters Management; and with the leadership of the Faculty of Maritime Studies University of Kyrenia, the 11th Amateur Seamen and Short Range Radio Operator Course has been completed. It was revealed that specialists from the Ministry administered relevant examinations on the campus of University of Kyrenia.

According to the press info release issued by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations of University of Kyrenia, course attendees, who were successful at the examination, were awarded “Amateur Seamen Certificate” and also “Short Range Radio Operatorship” certificates. It was pointed out that these certificates were internationally accredited and seamen who own these certificates had the right to use vessel and/or yacht up to 24 metres long.

Making a statement, Dean of Faculty of Maritime Studies of University of Kyrenia Prof. Dr. Mustafa Altunç, said: “Faculty of Maritime Studies has existed in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus since 1996, as part of the Near East University. In time, the accumulated experiences and knowledge was transferred to the University of Kyrenia; offering the best education on maritime studies in this region. With this current course, we also raise amateur seamen, giving them internationally accredited certificates; which enable them to use yachts up to 24 metres long. Through the leadership of the Former TR Minister of Transport, Marine and Communication, and currently TR Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım, whose son is a former graduate from our faculty, we have began to raise Amateur Seamen at the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. I am honoured and rather happy to announce that this year, we have completed the 11th of this course”.
